Judith Scott Obituary

The Lord called Judith Scott home on Friday, July 29, 2016. Memorial service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, at St. Anne's Church, 6055 Azle Ave., Fort Worth, 76135. Committal: 2 p.m. at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. Memorials: The family requests no flowers. If you wish to make a donation in Judith's name, you can contact Alpha Delta Kappa Foundation by calling 1-800-247-2311. Judy also would wish for the donation of a book in her name to the Boswell High School Library, 817-237-3314 or the El Dorado, Kan., Public Library. Judith Higgins Scott was born in El Dorado, Kan., on Jan. 23, 1938, the eldest of the two children of John and Pauline Higgins. She lived in El Dorado and graduated from high school in 1956. She attended Kansas State University where she met and married Engle Wayne Scott on Aug. 31, 1958, and then graduated in January 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts in education. Her further civilian education at Troy State University culminated in an award of a Master of Science degree in education and history in 1981. Judith was an educator all of her adult life. She taught speech, English, social studies, and history at four different secondary and high school levels. Students in five states and two locations in Germany benefited from her efforts. Her career culminated as the senior English and Advanced Placement U.S. History teacher for 14 years at Boswell High School in the Eagle-Mountain Saginaw Independent School District, Fort Worth. She was named Teacher of the Year for the District in the 1999-2000 school year. Many, many students over the years reaped the benefits of her scholarship, humanity and social awareness skills, which she freely imparted to them, in preparation for a productive life in our society. Following her retirement in 2001, Judy spent numerous hours assisting young new teachers in the Eagle Mountain system as a mentor. She was active in the Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority, serving one term as president. She resided in Fort Worth until her death. More than any of her accomplishments, she was most proud of her family, their love of God, their honesty, their work ethic and their sense of morality. She was preceded in death by her husband, Engle Wayne Scott, on Nov. 14, 2011, and by her parents, John L. and Dolly Higgins. Survivors: Her son, Mike Scott and wife, Sonia; daughter, Leigh Ann Thompson and husband, Jim; Judy was a doting grandmother and greatly loved her grandchildren, Davis Bush, Annalisa Scott, Sofia Scott, Taylor Thompson and Tyler Thompson; and sister, Nancy Lichtenfels.

Judy was a fine example of what teachers should be. Serious about her job yet had a great sense of humor. Lucky for me, she taught my kids and they loved her. I hope there are no papers to check in heaven.

Judy, thank you for being a charter member of Alpha Delta Kappa, an honorary sorority for women educators, you were always an inspiration

Mrs. Scott...wow, where do I begin? Thank you for all that you ever did for me. Thank you for being that one teacher who really pushed me beyond my perceived limits. When I teach, I hear your voice educating the vast number of students who've sat my class. When I study Chaucer, I hear your voice teaching me the intricacies of Middle English and telling me that I can do it, even when I thought I couldn't.

Thank you, Mrs. Scott. Thank you for showing me what a true teacher should be. I can only ever hope to be one tenth of the teacher you were. You will be greatly missed on this Earth.

With love and deepest sympathies to the Scott family,
Heather Ault Nieto, M.Ed.
