Kenneth Herrington Obituary
Kenneth Milton Herrington, 67, passed away Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013, in Graham. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday in Morrison Funeral Home Chapel. Memorials: Habitat for Humanity of Graham. Ken, who will always be remembered as "Kenny," was born May 15, 1946, in Woodson to Wilma Adell Morrison Herrington and the late J.B Herrington. He married Patina Marie Bratton on Sept. 9, 1995, in San Antonio. He graduated with a bachelor's in mathematics from the University of Texas in 1968 and pursued graduate work in physics. Ken was employed by IBM as an advisory programmer for 25 years and consulted to NASA where helped write the program that put the first man on the moon. He received many patents while working for IBM/NASA. While working at NASA, he received the NASA Apollo Achievement Award. He also received the IBM First Invention Award. Ken also loved all there was to being outdoors. He was involved with the Graham Hospital Auxiliary, Art Splash on the Square, Habitat for Humanity, and Special Olympics. Ken touched so many people with his love and kindness that just came so natural. A very close friend said "I am saddened by this news. Ken's courageous battles over the years have been such inspirations to many, many people. I was able to love him for all of my life, church group buddies, school chums, and he was a much-needed tutor to lots of us while we were in WHS. He was always upbeat, funny, and full of subtle quips that were sadly lost on lots of us who were a little dense. I know he was bound to have gotten quite a kick out of those blank faces that didn't get what he'd just alluded to ... just the thought of his sweet personality makes me smile. What a legacy he left." He also was the biggest UT Longhorns fan there ever was and favorite quarterback was Colt McCoy who actually helped save his life one year on Memorial Day. He will truly be missed by all who were blessed to know him. He was preceded in death by his father, J.B. Herrington; grandparents; and numerous aunts and uncles. Survivors: Wife, Patina Herrington of Graham; two loving daughters by his first marriage, Lisa Richardson and husband, Chris, of Austin and Kim Herrington of Austin; stepdaughter, Jennifer Kuhn of Seguin; and mother, Wilma Herrington of Graham; sister, Jean Emmert of Hudson Oaks. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Sadie, Clara, Cory and Mariah; and nephews, Kevin and Keith.
