Kenneth Rowland Obituary

Loving husband and father, Kenneth Hills Rowland Jr., 75, passed away at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014, after a brief illness. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Monday at St. Martin-in-the-Fields Episcopal Church, 223 S. Pearson Lane, Keller. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The First Tee of Fort Worth, a youth development program (www.thefirstteeftworth.org), or Hospice Compassus of Fort Worth. Born Nov. 3, 1938, in Charleston, W.Va., Ken grew up in that state and New York and settled his family in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in 1973. A man with great curiosity who always sought knowledge about his interests, Ken was also a consummate salesman and entrepreneur. Even early in his career, he invented a unique oil filter for Cummins Inc. All his personal traits manifested themselves in ways that impacted others and their lives. He particularly loved golf, photography and fishing, but also dabbled in many other hobbies, from wine production and family genealogy to making fishing rods. He enjoyed travel and did so around the world. Ken was a lover of life and devoted much of his time to his family, community and parish, where he served over 40 years as a chalice bearer, lay reader and verger in the Episcopal Church. His sons will remember their dad as a coach and tutor, acolyte master, barbecue cook and enthusiastic supporter of all that they did, who taught responsibility, honesty and "doing one's best." Survivors: Ken leaves behind his wife and best friend, Elizabeth; four sons; a sister; a brother; and eight grandchildren. His warm, kind, and positive spirit, which often expressed itself in a resounding baritone voice, will be missed.

Ken will be truly missed, we ALL enjoyed seeing him and listening to his stories, I don't think a time went by that he did not have a story to tell about one of his many adventures or his golf game. He was definitely a joy to see each and every time. Our prayers are with you during this time of loss.
