Klata Peacock Obituary

Klata Peacock
June 14, 1940 - July 4, 2023
Arlington, Texas - Klata Rae Woodul was born in Lamesa, Texas on June 14th, 1940, and grew up on a cotton farm there in Dawson County. She had a wonderful family, including a mother and father who were very supportive of her as well as siblings she loved - an older sister, Lexeen, and two younger brothers Zant and Greg.
After graduating Miss Tornado from Lamesa High, she attended The University of Texas at Austin where she met her future husband, George Eugene Peacock II. Married after college, they lived in Dallas while George attended Southwestern Medical School and Klata taught at Bryan Adams High School. They then moved to Arlington to start a family and where her husband worked at Arlington Memorial Hospital.
Her only child George III, or Tres, was born in 1970, and survives her with his wife Anna and their two daughters -- Lilly Claire & Eliza Belle. "Mumsie" cherished her two granddaughters, and loved to go on shopping adventures with the girls and serve them over-sugared oatmeal. She was also a great mother-in-law, treating Anna with a love that always knew just the right boundaries. Her son will be forever grateful to have someone who was always his biggest cheerleader.
After her husband passed away from leukemia in 1974, Klata became an interior decorator and worked in the profession until her son graduated high school, at which point she went back to teaching, with stints as a language teacher at Pantego Christian Academy and The Oak Ridge School. She was also a new member of First Presbyterian Church in Arlington.
In her wallet after her sudden passing was found a card that read "So do not fear, for I am with you. Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." -- Isaiah 41:10
Klata was a strongly independent woman, who loved to travel and be creative. Her decorating, painting and piano were things that gave her great joy. So too did her friends, whom she cherished and loved to do things for and with. Her enthusiasm for others, and penchant for always trying to make the small things special will be dearly missed. She passed away July 4th. She came in on Flag Day and went out with fireworks.
There will be a celebration of life service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that you consider a donation to Mission Arlington.

Klata was such a wonderful neighbor and friend. She always had a smile, was so positive, and had such a great personality! Even with the smallest gift, she made you feel like it was something extraordinary! She added so much to our game days and ladies luncheons, and will be missed so much.

From the moment I met Klata I was awestruck by her loveliness. Her manner was so genteel and her voice so appealing. She created a work of art for my on my 80th birthday, and it is one of my most cherished treasures. My deepest sympathies are with you, Tres and Anna, and with her cherished granddaughters.

Klata was a very dear and very close friend. She was one of those friends who I totally trusted to keep my secrets. She was a great listener and never once judged me. She had a great wit and loved to make me laugh. I will miss our daily conversations and her cheery "Hello, chickadee!" I knew if I needed her, I could call her and she would come. She impacted me greatly and I was blessed to have her as a friend.

Klata, we met during a busy time getting Covid19 injection. You was a cheerleader for me. You always shared beautiful words you will be missed. Our lunch was a plan but God had his plan . I will cherish you always. I send a flag of love by way of fireworks

Klata and I had a very long delightful visit over lunch on June 30, 2023. She was my neighbor, friend, interior designer and fellow church member. Her sense of color and design was impeccable. She was one of the most talented and creative people I have ever known. Her generous spirit will remain with us.

Klata was an amazing neighbor. When I was recovering from an injury, she brought me food that was delicious but decorated beautifully!! Her beautiful smile and cheerful demeanor will be sorely missed by her neighbors
