Larry Goin Obituary

Larry Goin, 67, passed away quietly Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at his home after a brief, courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral: 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 11, at Acton United Methodist Church. Interment: A private family burial will be held. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Memorials: May be made to a charity of choice benefiting children or the Texas Association of Retarded Citizens.
Larry was born Jan. 6, 1943, in Little Rock, Ark., to John Marshall and Anne Cagle Goin. The family moved to Haltom City in 1952. In 1961, Larry graduated from Birdville High School and then proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy, being assigned to a P-3 patrol squadron. He moved to Granbury in 1972 and began a lengthy career devoted to community service, working for the Volunteer Fire Department, the Granbury Police Department as a sergeant and later chief of police, and as chief investigator for the Hood County Sheriff's Department. In more recent years, he served as fire investigator for the Granbury Fire Department. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, westerns and barbecuing on the square, but mostly he loved people and would go to any length to help a friend. He was a Mason.

Had not seen you since August, 1961 when we went in different directions. Seems we both had good full lives. Somehow I feel better knowing you and Jerry both had good full honorable lives. Me too, see you one day soon. Mike Needham
