Linda Grimes Obituary

Linda Arlene Sanders Grimes met her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 6 p.m. She was a strong woman who struggled bravely in her fight with lung cancer. In the end the battle was lost at a Plano hospital in the CCU. Funeral: 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church of Argyle, 414 U.S. Highway 377 in Argyle, Pastor Brad Elsom officiating. Interment: Colonial Gardens in Marshall. Friends and family are invited to visit with the family and share memories at the viewing 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at DeBerry Funeral Home, 2025 W. University Drive, Denton. Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 26, at Sullivan Funeral Home in Marshall. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials/gifts may be sent to 1. Texas Division Treasurer Wilcox Scholarship, in care of Kay Hilburn, division treasurer, Box 597, Hallsville, Texas 75650-0597. She was born in Marshall on May 25, 1947, to Herman Sanders of Panola County and Dorothy Ruth Sanders of Marshall. Linda graduated from Marshall High School, attended Fresno State College and was an avid reader. Linda was a 12-year member of Shiloh 2538, United Daughters of the Confederacy. She was accepted on her great-great-grandfather Spencer M.A.G.W. Gray of Texas. She served as various officers including chapter president, vice president and registrar. She loved Southern history and presented exceptional educational programs to all ages. From 2010-2012, she served as Texas Division historian. Ever gracious, Linda was loved and admired by all, a true Southern lady and a patriotic American who was exemplary in every aspect of her life. Her home was always open and welcoming, especially at Christmas when she organized the chapter "Bears on Patrol" collecting supplies for the Veterans Hospital, donating flag sets to McKinney schools and always encouraging others to be active in community ministries. Linda was a member of the Mary Shirley McGuire Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution in Plano. She joined in April 2005 on her ancestor Hugh Jones from Georgia. Linda was admitted into The National Society United States Daughters of 1812 on Feb. 20, 2009, on her ancestor, Joseph White Jones of Alabama. Mrs. Grimes was preceded in death by her father, Herman Sanders; her daughter, Rachel Denise Grimes; and aunts, Margie, JoAnn and Jean. Survivors: Mrs. Grimes is survived by her dedicated husband of 50 years, H. Vernard Grimes III; dearest sister, Sharon Beckner and husband, Donald, of Marshall; beloved children, Melissa Grimes Ayles of Frisco, Pamela May of Keller, and Michelle Hall and husband, Jeremi, of Haslet; darling mother, Dorothy Blaylock and husband, P.H., of Marshall; two grandsons, Cody Hall and wife, Chellsea, of Fort Worth and Marshall Ayles of Frisco; and two great-grandchildren, Cayden and Emmy of Fort Worth. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-aunts and great-uncles who shared the same mutual love and admiration.
