Lucy Hale Obituary

Lucy Lee Hale HOUSTON--Lucy Lee Hale passed away Sunday, Nov. 11, 2018. GRAVESIDE SERVICE: 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, in Greenwood Memorial Park. 3100 White Settlement Road, Fort Worth, Texas. Lucy was born April 11, 1923, in Houston, Texas, the only child of Anne Lamar Harrison and Estill McHenry Harrison. She grew up in Houston and graduated from Lamar High School. She then attended the University of Texas where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. While there, she met her first husband, Carey West Jr. They had three children, Carey West III, Carol Ann West and Catherine Lee West. While residing in Fort Worth, Lucy became an active member of All Saints Episcopal Church, River Crest Country Club, the National League of Women Republican Voters, and the Junior League of Fort Worth. However, her main outside interest was contract and duplicate bridge. A Life Master since 1961, she taught bridge to many students in Fort Worth and Houston. She directed duplicate bridge sessions and tournaments at the Bridge Center. After her first marriage ended, she married I.B. Hale in 1963 and began a new phase of her life. He was an All American TCU football lineman, part of a dynasty in the late 1930s that included TCU's only national championship. I.B. and quarterback Davey O'Brien were best friends for many years. These were wonderful years for Lucy, and she remained devoted to I.B. until his untimely death in 1971. Lucy returned to Houston and continued teaching bridge, forming numerous lasting friendships. She had a successful career in retail sales at Suniland Furniture. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church and a supporter of many charities, including the Stevenson Center at Texas A&M. SURVIVORS: Son, Carey West and wife, Barbara; daughters, Carol Presnall and husband, Dixon, and Cathy O'Connor; stepson, Tommy Hale; grandchildren, Allison Plaza and husband, Francisco, Clay Langdon and wife, Whitney, and Kendall Levy and husband, Rich; as well as four great-grandchildren.
