Lynne Ferris Obituary

Lynne S. Ferris, 65, of Colleyville completed life's journey to the Lord on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. Service: A private remembrance will be held to honor her memory and to recall her giving spirit and loving heart. Memorials: Honoring her life, may be sent to Vitas Hospice online at www.vitascommunityconnection.org or the charity of your choice. She was born Oct. 11, 1947, in Winona, Minn., to the late Wallace Voss and Betty Westerman Voss. After relocating to the Dallas area in 1972, she obtained an R.N. degree while working two full-time jobs as an LVN. She loved the nursing profession, and worked in many local hospitals, eventually landing her dream job as nursing director of Parkland's Neurosurgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit. She met John S. Ferris on June 25, 1980, and after a prolonged courtship they began their 32-year marriage on Aug. 23 of that year. In 1982, after the completion of their military service at Carswell AFB in Fort Worth, John and Lynne made their home in Colleyville. Together they raised five children, Vicki (Chris Miles) Tylka of North Richland Hills, Erik (Jennifer) Ferris of Jupiter, Fla., Ashley (C.J.) Netting of San Antonio, Kristin (Jonathan) Lauren of Delray Beach, Fla., and John Ryan Ferris of Colleyville. She loved and enjoyed each of her nine grandchildren: Brittany Tylka, Bryan Thedford, Mary Paz Acuna Ferris, Jack Ferris, Mia Ferris, Aiden Ferris, Reid Ferris, Caileigh Netting and Brenna Netting. She is also survived by her brothers, Rick Voss of Roselle, Ill., and Robert Voss of Albuquerque, N.M.; and her aunt, Jenny Westerman of Lacrosse, Wis. She will miss them nearly as much as they will miss her, and none will forget her love. Lynne's family would like to express their gratitude to all the health care providers who assisted her on her long journey; the Lion and Vitas hospice staffs, the caring staff at Keller Oaks Health Care, Dr. Kevin Page, Dr. Stephen Timon, Dr. Don Enty and his nurse assistant, Cathy, Dr. Mike Stanton, Dr. Jay Storey, Dr. Stephen Davis, Dr. Lee Drinkard, and all the doctors and nurses of Vitas Hospice at Baylor All Saints Hospital of Fort Worth. A special thanks is given to all of the nurses at Baylor Medical Center of Grapevine, especially Clyde Morris, RN, who provided excellent care and support during her difficult times. Without their help her pain and struggle would have been compounded. May God bestow upon you and your families a multitude of blessings, for you have, without exception, demonstrated by your actions and deeds that a humane, compassionate, caring profession still exists, thrives, and embodies all that is noble. Lynne wanted to gratefully thank those whose prayers gave her much needed assistance and strength. Many of you were friends and acquaintances, however she did not have the pleasure of knowing all who raised their voices to God on her behalf, but she appreciated your prayers and felt the power of your intercessions. Lynne sends a tear-filled farewell to her good friends, Drs. Linda Huffhines and Tom Kelly of Grapevine, without whose friendship and counsel this life would have been much more difficult. May God bless you both.

My dear Lynn, thank you for being a loyal friend over the last 28 years. I will miss our coffee and dessert, especially crème brulee meals. Your spirit lives on. I promise I will do all I can to be there for John whom you know never reaches out for help. I told Vickie and Brittany I would be there for them at all times. Now you rest in peace, sweet friend.
