M.C. Nichols Obituary

M.C. Nichols Jr. passed away Saturday, April 7, 2007, at the family residence after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease and liver cancer.

Graveside service: 3 p.m. Tuesday in West End Cemetery, with two of Mr. Nichols nephews, S.R. Bills and C.L. "Buddy" Bills, officiating. Visitation: 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday at Lacy Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be members of the Sandra Palmer Home Owner's Association: Billy Mobley, Paul Lansford, Chip Lee, Stephen Westra, Perry Elliott and Joe Bob Huddleston. Honorary pallbearers: Bob Boone of Granbury and Lindy Boyd of Stephenville.

Mr. Nichols was born in January 1922 in Stephenville to Mack and Ella Cox Nichols. After graduating from Stephenville High School and attending John Tarleton Agricultural College, he served four years in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II.

Upon discharge from the Navy, he joined his parents in operating Nichols Floral in Stephenville. He and his mother then founded Nichols Art Wreaths. During that time, he was able to establish many valuable friendships and contacts in the retail-wholesale business.

He then joined Darrel Jones Associates as a partner and became regional manager over a four-state area as a manufacturers' representative in the office furniture and supply business. Due to health problems he retired in 1987.

He was a longtime active member of First Presbyterian Church of Stephenville and was appointed ruling elder, serving several terms before failing health prevented further activity.

The family would like to extend its gratitude and heartfelt appreciation to Stephen's Home Health Care and American Hospice for their assistance and support.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, W.B. Nichols, Kathleen Bills and C.D. Nichols.

Survivors: Wife of 63 years, Julia Marie "Judy" Nichols; daughter, Jeanmarie Nichols, both of Stephenville; grandchildren, Rebecca Myers and husband, Thomas of Granbury, and Travis Lewis and wife, Jeannie of Waco; great-granddaughter, Allee Lewis; sister-in-law and husband, Bob and Evalyn Ellis of Fort Worth; an aunt, Rosemary Carter of Stephenville; and several nieces and nephews.
