Mabel was born May 21, 1921, in Waushara County, Wis., to Robert Wilke and Marie Schmude Wilke. She was confirmed in 1936 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Auroraville, Wis. She attended high school in Berlin, Wis., and graduated in 1942 from Business School in Fond du Lac, Wis. She met Carl A. Ziehe at Lutheran Walther League in Washington, D.C., and married him Aug. 18, 1948. She was devoted to him for 33 years until his death in 1981, and continued her devotion to him throughout the remainder of her life. Mabel was a beloved wife, mother and homemaker, focusing her energies to create a loving home for her family. She was active in numerous activities involving her children from homeroom mom to Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. Mabel was a valued member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, participating in Lutheran Women's Missionary League, Sunday school and vacation Bible school. She was an accomplished seamstress and greatly enjoyed embroidering and gardening.
Survivors: Son, David Ziehe and wife, Ann; grandchildren, Lisa Daross and husband, Jeremy, Paul Ziehe and Mary Ziehe; daughter, Susan Rushing and husband, Brad; grandchildren, Scott Rushing and wife, Sharon, and Bruce Rushing and great-granddaughter, Brooklyn; son, Fred Ziehe and wife, Debbie, and grandchildren, Brad Ziehe and Krystal Ziehe; brother, Robert Wilke and wife, Dorothy; sister, Mary Jodarski; sisters-in-law, Muirene Wilke and Litt Ziehe Collier and husband, Bill; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and many lifelong friends.
