Arlington, Texas - On Monday, January 4, Marian Feld passed away at the age of 77.
Marian was born on May 24, 1943, in Tucson, Arizona, to Irving and Lilyan Kaplan. She attended the University of Arizona as an undergraduate, and later graduated with a master's degree in mathematics. It was during her graduate years that she met a sweet PHD candidate, David Feld. They married in August of 1965, and upon completion of their degrees, moved briefly to California and then to Arlington, Texas, where David took a job as a polymer chemist with the company that would eventually become Johnson & Johnson. In January 1973, the couple was blessed with a baby girl, and in November of 1974, they were blessed with a baby boy.
Judaism was central to Marian's life. In 1980, along with eight other families, Marian and David founded Congregation Beth Shalom, Arlington's Reform synagogue, in the living room of their home. Outside of being very active in every aspect of Beth Shalom, Marian taught Sunday school for many years, she taught math at several schools, she worked briefly as a travel agent and she played Mah Jong twice a week with her best friends. Speaking of friends, Marian was a friend to all. She never met a stranger, and many of her children's friends referred to her as mom and her grandchildren's friends knew her as Bubbe. She was fiercely loyal and created a loving home for her children, and eventually for her grandchildren. Marian and David were married for 42 wonderful years until his death in September of 2007.
She is survived by her companion GW "Dub" Horn, her brother Rabbi David Kaplan (Terri), her daughter Ilene Feld, her son Brian Feld (Lizette), her grandchildren Rachel, Zach (Markie), Cameron, Hannah, David and Adam and her great-grandchildren Peyton and Paisley.
Due to Covid restrictions, the burial will be private.
