Mark Brown Obituary

Mark Brown
July 16, 1955 - January 10, 2023
Fort Worth, Texas - Mark Alan Brown, 67, of Fort Worth, TX, passed away in his home with his family by his side on January 10, 2023, after an 11-month battle with Glioblastoma.
Mark was born July 16, 1955, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Twila and Roy Brown.
Mark grew up in Tulsa attending Thomas Edison Preparatory School. An avid golfer, Mark received a scholarship to play on the golf team at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, ultimately completing his education at Southern Methodist University in Dallas with a degree in accounting. Mark was a proud member of the Phi Delta Fraternity where he made many lifelong friends.
Mark married Susan Riggs, his wife of 39 years, whom he met on a ski trip in Aspen, Colorado. They married in Midland in 1981 and went on to have three children; Ashley, Riggs and Bryan.
Mark started his career as an accountant for Cessna where his compensation was flight training, and he became a certified pilot. His pilot's license was revoked by Susan when the children arrived. Mark would later join Brants/Wortham where he worked for over 35 years, retiring in January 2022 as the firm's Managing Director.
Mark served on the Fort Worth Zoological Board of Directors, was a member of The Jewel Charity Ball and Steeplechase, and supporter of The Saving Hope Foundation. He was involved at All Saints' Episcopal School through all the years his children attended. Mark and Susan were members of the congregation of Saint Andrew's Episcopal Church.
Mark, known to his friends as Uli Baba and Browie, had no enemies. Mark was a fierce competitor. He enjoyed playing golf at River Crest Country Club where he won Crestival in 1986. In 1995 he also "won" in the score card playoff. He memorialized his success on his golf cap with an asterisk.
Mark was a passionate art collector who enjoyed traveling with Susan to search for new artists. Mark loved to fish with family and friends in the Gulf of Mexico, as well as the rivers of Vermejo Park.
Mark especially enjoyed spending time at the family retreat he and Susan built and named "Rockin' 7" in Glen Rose, TX. Mark loved few things more than sitting in his rocking chair, styro in hand, listening to Dave Matthews Band and watching the sunset with his family. He, his children, and grandchildren spent many hours swimming, shooting skeet, and exploring the bluebonnet field on the Polaris.
Mark is survived by his daughter, Ashley Brown Waldeck and husband, Adam; son, Riggs Alan Brown; grandchildren, Jack Waldeck, Lizzie Waldeck, Riggs Brown, Jr. and Lily Kate Brown; and his mother, Twila Ashley Brown. Sisters in law, Bryan Riggs and Kathy (Michael) Grella; nieces and nephews John (Janis) Grella, Margery Gossett, Elizabeth (Sterling) Mitchell and Will (Sarah) Grella and their children.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Riggs Brown; son, Bryan Perry Brown; father, Roy Gene Brown; sister, Beverly Ann Brown; and his in-laws, Margery and Jack Riggs.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 14th at 11:00am in the sanctuary at St Andrew's Anglican Church, 917 Lamar Street, Fort Worth, Texas 76102. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation, glioblastomafoundation.org; or The Saving Hope Foundation, saving-hope.org.
