R.B. Shield Obituary

R.B. Shield, 71, a cattle broker, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, in Fort Worth.

Funeral: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Saginaw. Burial: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Greenwood Funeral Home.

R.B. Shield fought the good fight and kept the faith and answered God's call. R.B. was born to Burt and Myrtle Shield in Salt Gap April 20, 1932.

He was featured in and his picture appeared on the cover of the Paint Horse Journal. His talent for putting buyers and sellers together made him a legend in the paint horse breed.

R.B. was also the recipient of the Star-Telegram Farm and Ranch Award. He raised many, many award-winning paint horses and is credited for doing more than any one person for improving the paint horse breed. For several years, he was the leading breeder of point-earning paint horses.

R.B. Shield was a good man who touched many lives. He was a longtime cattleman of the Fort Worth Stockyards, Texas Livestock Marketing, Foley-Allen Commission Co. and Shield Livestock.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Burt and Myrtle Shield; and by a daughter, Sharana Shield Redfearn.

Survivors: His wife of 42 years, Darrollene Shield; son, Burt Shield III and wife, Debby; daughter, Sonnesa Gooding and husband, Garth; and son, Ryan Shield; grandchildren, Stephanie and Jacob Curtis, Lezlie Shield, Dan and Kyle Redfearn, R.B. Shield IV, Austin Gooding; sisters, Jimmie Shaw, Mary Ann Dickey and husband, John and Nancy Franklin and husband, Keith.
