Ray Thompson Obituary

Ray Thompson
May 15, 1946 - November 23, 2022
North Richland Hills, Texas - Ray Thompson, 76, passed on Wednesday, November 23, 2022.
Ray Thompson was born May 15th, 1946, to the late J.C. Thompson and Evelyn Thompson of Fort Worth, TX. Ray was a lifelong educator, serving as middle school principal at North Richland Middle School and in other early educational roles within his 35 years with Birdville Independent School District. He was the Region II Secondary Principal of the year, he was also a volunteer firefighter for Haltom City and was very involved in his church. Ray was a man of faith and integrity, and he was beloved by all who met him. He encouraged so many with his passion in ensuring children would succeed. Everywhere he went, there would always be someone who would see him or who he would see and strike up conversations with everyone in the community that knew him.
Ray also devoted his time and love to his family, and they traveled to many places with family and friends over the years, to mention a few, Hawaii, Florida, Colorado, South Padre Island, cruises throughout the Caribbean, Alaska, and many more. Ray always put others' needs first, as he wanted to make sure people were taken care of, as that was always his passion. Ray also had an adventurous side, as he loved motorcycles, tinkering with cars and trucks, hanging out in garages while talking with friends, hunting, fishing, and his music.
Ray is survived by his wife, Sandra Thompson; daughters Alison Kothmann and Marisa T. Coyle and husband, Kenneth Coyle; twin brother, Jay Thompson, and wife, Ann Thompson; grandchildren, Jack Kothmann and Karoline Kothmann, Allie Reese Coyle, and Heidi Kothmann; and nephews, Travis Thompson and Cody Thompson, and wife, Alicia Thompson.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 AM Tuesday, November 29th, 2022 at Mount Olivet Chapel.
Visitation will be held 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Monday, November 28th, 2022 at Mount Olivet Chapel.
Interment will be held Tuesday, November 29th, 2022 at Mount Olivet Cemetery.

I grew up with Ray and Jay and saw both of them on occasion through the years. I was shocked to hear of Ray's untimely passing only two weeks after I last spoke to Ray, having an opportunity to visit with Ray, Sandy and Jay for about half an hour. One of my best memories was how protective Ray was of my romance with my girlfriend, Claudia, now my wife of 55 years. He would look after my interest in Claudia while he was attending TWC with Claudia as I was then attending UT Arlington. Any would be suitors had to go through Ray to approach my girlfriend. No friend could have been more loyal always looking out for me and having an encouraging word.

Ray hired me as a first year teacher. He took me to room 14 and said, "Teach them something." He would stop by from time to time, offering advice and encouragement. He insisted I get my masters degree and arranged my schedule so I could leave 7th period and drive to the university. He encouraged me to talk to the new speech path he had just hired. I ended up marrying her. Ray was like a second dad to me. My nine years with him along with another science teacher (Darr man) were the best teaching days of my life. A ton more I could say. God blessed my life with Ray Thompson.

So very sad to hear of Ray's passing. I knew Ray and Jay since they were in elementary school and had many good memories of being a part of Ray's life. We worked in youth groups and played on junior Church softball league together as well as attended Haltom High School at the same time. In all those years I was never able to identify Ray from Jay with surety. I had the privilege of spending about a half hour with Ray, Jay and Sandy in late October of 2022. I viewed Ray with great respect for the way he conducted his life in the community and at Church. I pray God's blessings on Sandy and family as well as Jay and his family in such a difficult time. Ray hired me for my very first assistant principal job at North Richland MS. We spent 10 years together and I was so blessed to be lead by such a great man! He truly loved the kids and wanted the best for them and for all of his staff. As the years past we remained friends and he never hesitated to help me out with a car, boat, weed eater or even some new plants from his yard. He will surely be missed by many. Praying for his sweet family during this difficult time.
