Rene Compton Obituary

Rene Compton, 74, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29, 2012, surrounded by her family. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Thursday at University Christian Church with a reception following. Interment: Private. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Greenwood Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Rene was born Jan. 4, 1938, to Irene Mercer Compton and William O. Compton. She was extremely proud of her heritage and often told colorful stories of growing up on the Mercer ranch with her Mama, Papa and loving family. Rene lived life to the fullest, always surrounding herself with family, friends and animals. She was one of a kind, no doubt about it. She loved people. Her home was always open and served as the headquarters for two generations of Paschal students, rodeo cowboys or anyone looking for a good meal and a place to stay. The family would like to thank the caregivers of American Hospice and Longmeadow Care Center. Rene was preceded in death by her parents and her infant brother, Billy Tom. Survivors: Daughters, Pam Roach Thomas and husband, David, of San Antonio, Beth Roach of Krum, and Caroline Roach Proctor and husband, Randy, of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Bryson Proctor and Mercer Proctor.

Pam,Beth and Caroline - I remember your mom fondly from when we were kids, lunch at Granny's house and birthday parties at the ranch. She was always funny and animated when she told stories. You all are in my thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

My heartfelt condolences to Pam, Beth and Caroline during this time of loss and grief. Your mother was one of a kind, and was so fun to be around. Her generosity and hospitality, not to mention her gourmet meals for large groups, are such special memories for me and many others.

I knew Rene through her horses. She was a really good friend of my mother before mom passed. Mom love to get a phone call or visit from Rene. Sorry to hear of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers. Clay and Jo Johns Millsap, Tx.

Rene amazed and honored us all with her sincerity and openness. She cared for everyone; she treated everyone the same, which was kind and loving.

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.

When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.

Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
(Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!)

I was so sad to hear of Rene's passing. She was such a good friend all through elementary to high school in Fort Worth. I last saw her in 1962 while my wife and I were in Las Vegas. We were walking across the casino floor when she yelled at me and came rushing over. It was a great reunion! I've missed her for years and will continue to hold her near my heart. My condolences to her family.

Never was there a more open, loving, giving person. I am so sorry for your loss. We met at McLean. I am rarely in Ft.Worth but when I pass the Compton's house I always think of her. Paula Mack Zieselman, NYC

My heart aches for you and your family during this time. I imagine there is no worse time than the loss of a mother. I know from personal experience. Your mom was truly one of the most open and giving human beings I have ever met. I am so blessed to have known her. She will be missed. My deepest condolences to you all. God Bless you.
