Rhonda Leigh Johnston-Klinefelter, 32, of Royse City passed away Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010. Memorial service: 10 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Community Church, 251 Countryside Court, Southlake. Visitation: The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Lucas Funeral Home, Grapevine. She was born July 20, 1978, in Lubbock to Kerry and Carla Thompson Johnston. Rhonda was passionate about riding Harleys, and was an avid dog lover and enjoyed horses. Rhonda was a graduate of SMU and was bilingual in Spanish. She enjoyed participating in recreational sports, especially wakeboarding. Survivors: Her parents; sister, Melissa Thompson; brother, Andrew Johnston; grandparents, Billie Johnston and Doil Thompson; nephew, Dustin; and former husband, Lynn "Skip" Klinefelter.

On her behalf, Rhonda's parents donated her riding gear today to Equest for the use of our clients with disabilities. We are shocked and saddened to hear of their loss. I'm shocked and stunned to learn this news today. I am so very sorry for this. Rhonda was an incredible soul - full of life and love. She and I shared so many fun memories in college. I'm sad I lost touch with her and have had to find this out now. I can still hear her laugh as clear as if she was standing right next to me. I am so very sorry for your loss.

Rhonda was there for me when I needed a friend, always ready to champion my feelings and fight for me. She didn't judge, she just embraced things as they came along. I admired her for that. I will miss her warm welcomes, hugs and smiles and I hope she is at peace.

I had the privilege of conducting the marriage ceremony for Rhonda and Skip. Although that didn't work out, here's one thing I know about Rhonda. The Apostle Paul said it best "For to me to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord". For some reason God preferred her to be a peace and rest with Him and to brighten Heaven's streets rather than to leave her in turmoil here on earth. He gives life and He takes it when He is ready, not us. We are sad but our loss is Heaven's gain. God bless you all how knew her and loved her dearly.
