Richard Alden Obituary

Richard C. "Dick" Alden Jr., 76, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 27, 2008.
Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at Robertson Mueller Harper. Pastor Pat Lucy will officiate. Visitation: Mr. Alden's family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, consideration of contributions to the OU School of Engineering, care of University of Oklahoma Foundation, 100 Timberdell Road, Norman, Okla. 73019-0685, in memory of Richard C. Alden Jr. is suggested.
Born April 13, 1931, in Bartlesville, Okla., Dick was the son of Richard Champney and Ethel Carlisle Alden. He received a B.S. in engineering from the University of Oklahoma in 1953 where he was a member of Alpha Sigma Phi Fraternity. After serving in the Army for two years during the Korean War, Dick earned an M.S.E. from the University of Michigan. In 1956 he joined General Dynamics, formerly Convair, where he furthered his engineering skills in different areas of development and retired in January 1989 as an F-16 project engineer after 32 years.
Dick had a sharp technical mind and was accomplished in many areas. He loved classical and jazz music, and played the piano in his early years. Dick was an avid airplane enthusiast, and built a LancAir airplane after retirement. He and his wife, Gloria, flew extensively with the Texas Aviation Association of which he was president and she, secretary-treasurer at the time of his death. In addition, Dick was an accomplished woodcraftsman, bridge player and a Toastmaster.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by his children, Douglas Alden and Karen Alden Etter.
Survivors: His wife of 26 years, Gloria Humphries Littlepage Alden; children, Jeanne Alden Christian and husband, Randy, of Tulsa, Okla., Mark Littlepage and Kirby Littlepage, both of Fort Worth; grandchildren, Christopher Etter, Corey Christian, Sara Christian, Danielle Littlepage and Corey Littlepage; and sister, Patricia Alden Lucy and husband, Bob, of Tulsa, Okla.
