Richard Steed Obituary

Richard Douglas Steed

September 25, 1932 - May 19, 2024

Fort Worth, Texas - Richard Douglas Steed, 91, passed peacefully at home with family on Sunday May 19, 2024. He was born in Austin, Texas on September 25, 1932 to Virginia and Seldon Steed, moving to Fort Worth at the age of 3. He attended Alice Carlson Elementary, McLean Middle School, and Paschal High School. As a young man, he worked for the Fort Worth Press as a paper carrier and as a caddie on the Worth Hill's Municipal Course. In high school he worked for WBAP and KFJZ radio stations reading for "Adventures of America" and "Your Story Parade".

He graduated with an engineering degree from Rice Institute (now Rice University) and received a commission from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers where he served on active duty for 2 years. Richard joined his father in the underground utility business at Steed Construction and worked tirelessly until his death. His company was instrumental in providing water, sewer and storm drains for the developing cities in and around the Metroplex. He still was going to the office daily until 3 weeks before his passing. He was a member of Saint Andrews Catholic Church, the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher, the Rotary Club of Western Fort Worth, Rivercrest Country Club and the Breakfast Tip Club.

In 2000, Richard and Judy, his wife of 66 years built a house in Hamilton, Montana where they spent their summers. Richard enjoyed golf, fly fishing and walking his sometimes friendly dog Fritz. One of his favorite past times was reading to the young children at North High Mount School in Fort Worth for over 20 years. Richard loved God, his family and his fellow man. All who had the joy of knowing him agree he made the world a better place with his great wit and kindness.

Richard is survived by his wife Judy, children Lynne Steed (Ted Docteur), Susan Steed Barnett (Norman) , Richard Steed Jr. and Polly Steed. He is also survived by his grandchildren Sean Barnett (Martha) and his brother Alex Barnett. The family would to like to thank all involved with his healthcare, Dr. Elizabeth Story, Dr. Maxx Caveney, Evelyn Musoni, and Beaux Taylor.

Richard Steed came over every Christmas to have a glass of my mothers famous egg nog and visit with my parents. I also remember him coming to read to us many times at North Hi Mount over the years. He was a very special person and close family friend. Not very often you get to enjoy someone with such a kind heart and grateful attitude toward life. We´ll always remember you.
Love,
The Webster family

Mr. Richard....he will be greatly missed! The picture of him and Fritz is so fitting, I loved when I met him almost 20 years ago and he was speaking of his grandsons whom he adored and I asked if he had a picture and he said "well, here´s a picture of my dog Buddy" our family adored him, he was like a second grandpa to our boys, always bringing a fun gift and book for them when we would gather at the holidays! Playing Left, Right, Center with him he will be missed, we love the entire Steed family, sending all love and hugs during this time.

Mr Steed was a true gentleman. He and his family were some of the best people at the club I worked at. I saw them at church every weekend and will always remember our time on the golf course. RIP my friend. Prayers to the Steed Family.

- "My deepest sympathies to you Judy , Lynne, Susan, Richard Jr (Dick) and Polly during this time of grief. Richard was so special to me."
- "I will always remember the joy and light that he brought into my life." Words cannot express the sadness I feel for your loss . Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
My last conversation with Richard was when we prayed
"Hail Mary full of grace , the lord is with thee , blessed are thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Holy Mary mother of God pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death " Amen

Sending love, strength and comfort to you and your family Lynne! I know from my own personal loss of my mother, I'm filled with countless blessings, one being that she now truly is out of pain and suffering, just as your father is now at peace as he is called home.
