Robert Jackson Obituary

Robert Earl Jackson Jr., 87, of Amarillo died Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011. Graveside service: 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the IOOF Cemetery in Denton, with the Rev. Harvey Ozmer officiating. Memorials: The family suggests memorial contributions to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 3200 Denton Hwy., Fort Worth, Texas 76117-3793 or to the National Parkinson Foundation, www.parkinson.org. Bob was born in Denton to Robert Earl and Ida Mae Hall Jackson on June 22, 1924. He graduated from Denton High School. He attended the Agriculture and Mechanical College of Texas (now known as Texas A&M University) graduating with a degree in mechanical engineering. He entered the U.S. Army on March 25, 1943. He was promoted to first lieutenant and served in both World War II and the Korean War. He was honorably discharge on May 31, 1952. While serving in the military, he married Betty Ruth Davis in Denton on March 25, 1948. The couple moved to Fort Worth and were blessed with two children, Bob and Linda. While in Fort Worth, he worked as an engineer for Yandell, Cowan and Love firm, Preston Geren Associates and Carter & Burgess. He enjoyed a career as an engineer for 58 years and retired in 2008. Upon retirement Robert and Betty Ruth moved to Amarillo in 2010. Bob was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church in Haltom City, the Texas Society of Professional Engineers and the Moslah Shrine Temple. He was a past captain of the Moslah Patrol and a past commander of Worth Commandery 19 Knights Templar. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Jean Ellen Bowman. Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Betty Ruth, of the home; son, Robert Earl Jackson III, M.D., and his wife, Judith Ann, of Amarillo; daughter, Linda Ruth Jackson of Santa Fe, N.M.; granddaughter, Amanda Kay Boyle and her husband, Jon, and great- grandson, Logan Jackson Boyle, all of Charlotte, N.C.
