Granbury, Texas - Robin Marie Watts Echols, 80, of Granbury, passed away on February 25, 2021. Born September 4, 1940 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, she is predeceased by her parents, Nanalie Compton and John Gordon Watts and is survived by her husband of 53 years, Floyd (Sonny) Echols.
Robin received both Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Speech Pathology at New Mexico State University and a PhD in Administrative Leadership from University of North Texas. After graduating college she became a Speech Pathologist and then Supervisor of Special Education in the Arlington Independent School District. She taught at University of Texas Arlington and was Director of Rehabilitation for Goodwill Industries. After retirement in Ruidoso, NM, she worked with Mescalero Apache Indian children.
In addition to her husband, Robin is survived by her sister, Janice Watts Seidel (Ron), sister-in-law Nancy Watkins (Guy), nephew Jeffrey Seidel (Trisha), nieces Amanda Seidel Applewhite (Joe), Valerie Watson, Stephanie Combs (J.J.), Alexis Watkins Peck (Brendan) and great-nieces and nephews who were her delight from the day they were born.
Robin and Sonny were accomplished sailors, played golf in Ruidoso, and loved to play bridge with friends in Granbury. Robin was an avid reader and belonged to many book clubs and professional organizations.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the J. Gordon and Nanalie C. Watts Endowed Scholarship and sent to NMSU Foundation, P.O. 300003, MSC 3AG Las Cruces NM 88003-8003
A memorial service will be held on May 1 at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Granbury/Acton, Texas.
