Torch Lake , Michigan - Ron Budros died unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep on May 13, 2023. Ron left us young (relatively), active, and engaged.
Ron was born in Fort Worth, Texas. The "baby" of the James Louis Budros and Jean Schrader Budros family. He is survived by his brother James Louis Budros, Jr. and his sister Patti Budros Lis. Ron attended high school In Greenwich, Connecticut, college at St. Lawrence University, and received his master's degree in Geology from the University of Michigan. He was a Certified Petroleum Geologist.
He met his wife Barbara Jean Dunlap Budros in 1970 on her first day as a freshman at St. Lawrence, and they were married in 1973 at the University chapel. In 1981, he started his own oil and gas exploration company. In 1986, his first son, Nick, was born in Houston, Texas and soon after the family and his company moved to Traverse City, Michigan. In 1989, he fainted when Barbara's doctor told them they were having twins - his beautiful, identical daughters, Emma and Alyssa, were born in May. The family caboose, Michael, was born in 1991. Life was hectic and challenging, but Ron was a good husband and father. He coached the kids' soccer teams and even lined the fields. He took the family skiing and hiking. He enjoyed traveling, too, and was looking forward to hiking the Dolomites in Italy next year.
Most recently, he was excited about celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary on a special trip. He was also looking forward to spending more time taking care of his 40-acre woods and his home on the shore of Lake Michigan. There was more to do.
He said he regretted that procrastination and perfectionism inhibited him, but looking back on his life, that is hard to believe. He always devoted his life to others through his family, his work, his professional mentorships, and his love for soccer. He was a man of adventure, always looking for a new experience. He left the world a better, more meaningful place, and will be greatly missed by his loved ones and community.
