John Filipowicz Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Fitzgerald-Sommer Funeral Home - Yardley on Mar. 13, 2026.
John D. Filipowicz of Yardley, PA passed away at his home on Saturday, March 7, 2026, after a brave battle with pancreatic and lung cancers, surrounded by his wife Bonnie, his son Ryan, and relatives. John was married to his wonderful wife, Bonnie, for over 38 years. John deeply loved his family. He appreciated all that Bonnie did for him, his son, and others throughout the years. Bonnie was the best wife, mother, and partner. John was always proud that Ryan made the best of every opportunity without ever sacrificing what he stood for in his heart. He is a respectful, loving son.

John enjoyed working out, playing pickleball with friends, traveling with his family and supporting his wife and son in whatever they chose to do throughout their lives. He was very happy being a positive influence to others and providing support so they would be successful each day. It was important to John to stay connected with people and he has touched many lives. His fingerprints are on careers, marriages, families, and faith journeys. His witty sense of humor made us laugh every day. John is an example of a good, strong man, father, husband, leader, and friend.

John was a 1976 graduate of Kent School in Kent, CT. He went on to obtain a Bachelor of Arts degree in Government from St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY. Thereafter, he graduated from Western Michigan Law School with a Juris Doctorate. John was a member of the New York and Pennsylvania Bar Associations.

During his career, he held many executive positions with publicly held communication and data center companies including President, Executive Vice President, and General Counsel for five public companies, Chief Administrative Officer, as well as most recently Vice President of Risk and Compliance for Mill Creek Residential Trust, LLC. He was appreciative of the outstanding people that surrounded him throughout his career.

John was a member of the Yardley Knights of Columbus #11013 and a member and usher of the St. Ignatius of Antioch Church. He is the former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus in Exeter, PA where his Council won the Star Council Award.

John is also survived by his sisters Jane Kropkowski, her husband, Greg Kropkowski and Ann Blotner, and her husband, Richard. He is also survived by their son and daughters. John is also survived by his wife's family members including Dawn Bell, Kathy and Robert Marquez, Patty Marquez, Ronnie and Paulette Johnson and Carl Johnson, as well as their children and grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled from 10:00-11:00 on Tuesday March 31, 2026, at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church at 999 Reading Avenue, Yardley, PA, followed by a Mass at 11:00 a.m. Memorial donations are requested to be made to St. Ignatius of Antioch Church or Capital Health Cancer Center, One Capital Way, Pennington, NJ 08534.

If you are not well or have been around others who are ill, it would be appreciated if you would refrain from attending. Thank you for your understanding.

Arrangements are under the care of the FitzGerald-Sommer Funeral Home 17 S. Delaware Avenue Yardley, PA 19067. Condolences for the family can be left at www.fitzgeraldsommerfuneralhome.com.
