Daniel, Mark and Edward,
I would like to first extend my thoughts and prayers for your family. Im certain the grass trail that led between our front doors growing up has grown over. However, the memories have not diminished. I often think of how your dad managed his family. I use some of the same practices today with my daughters. He was a very kind and sharing person. I often recall the cookouts in your back yard, Rusty and the smell of your moms cookies.
sincerely

Ron was a good friend in Scouting and camping. Ron was a good friend of my Scoutmaster, Jack Boyd, (who also taught at Rosemont). Went camping with Ron at Worth Ranch and in Colorado and always enjoyed his friendship. Ron will be missed.

Ronald Lightner had a tremendous impact on the camping program at Troop 52 for several decades. His patient wit made a lot of good things happen. He taught a lot of young scouts riflery skills and produced countless safe hunters in the process.

Later, he made a difference with other individual scout troops as well as the district. His scouting career reflects a lifetime of selfless accomplishment. I was foutunate to know him for more than 40 years and see much of this happen.

Mr. Lightner was an excellant listener. He used this skill to communicate with young scouts, seasoned adult veterans and rebellious young patrol leaders. To say he was simply the best does not quite do him justice.

Ron Lightner was a wonderful part of the adult leadership for Boy Scout Troup 554 for many years. His ability to show genuine interest in each scout made each of the young men feel really important and able to live their lives by the scout motto. Ron was important to my family as he helped guide my son to become and Eagle Scout. That achievement will last a lifetime, thanks to Ron.

I also knew Ron and Ruth through their church and through Golden Eagles. They were friends with my parents, Leo and Marga. Ron was always good natured when Ruth and my mom would take off with Midge to go bird watching out at Benbrook.

To Ron's family, I extend my deepest sympathy and also my gratitude for sharing your Dad with the community for so many years. The world is a better place because of the Lightners.

Dear Ed and Family:
So sorry to see your dad had passed away and realize that your mom had, too! I will remember fondly having you tell us at work at Harris when it was San Jacinto day or some other Texas observance thanks to being the baby boy of a history teacher. Thinking of you at this difficult time. I miss you!
