Ruby Gibson Betts passed away at a Fort Worth hospital on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at the age of 94. Service: 12:30 p.m. Tuesday in Laurel Land Chapel of Chimes. Interment: Laurel Land Memorial Park. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Laurel Land Funeral Home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Tarrant Literacy Association, 800 W. Berry St., Fort Worth, Texas 76110. Ruby was born Jan. 7, 1919, in Waco to Samuel Allen Gibson and Essie Mae Strickland Gibson. The family moved to Fort Worth where she met and married her loving husband, James Winston Betts, in 1935. Together they reared two sons and three daughters. Her career in child care began with the nursery at Travis Avenue Baptist Church and continued at All Saints Hospital Child Care where she retired. They moved to Weatherford in 1988 to be near their two sons and grandchildren. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Nora Betts Green; her brother, Doyle Gibson; and sisters, Maude Louise Plexco and Ruth Virginia Halcomb. Survivors: Sister, Nellie Mae Worlow of Decatur; children with their spouses, Bobby James Betts (Georgia), Rachel Louise Fortenberry (Grimes), John Waymon Betts (Linda), Linda Ruth Baird (Robert); seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, family members and friends. We will greatly miss her sweet and loving spirit.
