Ruby Byas Nelson

Ruby Byas Nelson HURST -- Ruby Byas Nelson, 104, a loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Feb. 13, 2018. FUNERAL: 11:30 a.m. Friday in Mount Olivet Chapel. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet. She always put her family first. She helped with her grandchildren throughout their childhood. She and Horace "Poppie", her husband, took the grandchildren on summer trips. She helped many family members over the years when they would fall ill. She worked at the Bomber Plant during the war, and worked at Four Seasons Nursing Facility as an activity director. In 1936, Ruby danced in the Centennial Parade. She had lots of wisdom to share with everyone around her. You could have any conversation in the world with her, and her knowledge helped many people. Ruby will be missed by all. She had lots of love for everyone. A special thanks to Hurst Plaza Nursing and Rehabilitation for their kindness and friendship through the past few years. Also, a special thanks to Freedom Hospice for taking such good care of her. Ruby was preceded in death by her husband, Horace; her parents, Henry and Etta Byas; her brothers, Chig and Lofton Byas; sister, Bonnie Byas; and daughter-in-law, Gloria Nelson. SURVIVORS: Son, Frank; granddaughters, Carolyn Mendoza (Pat), Pam Roy (Bill), and Debbie London (John); great-grandchildren, Amanda Hawkins (Tim), Shane Mendoza, Krista Barnett, and Amy Endo; and great-great-grandchild, Katarina Ruby Hawkins; along with numerous family and friends.
