Ruven F. Herrera Jr. was promoted to the Lord's house Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 1, at Gateway Church, Southlake location. Ruven was born Nov. 15, 1962, in San Angelo to Ruven V. Herrera Sr. and Nellie Herrera. He was the youngest of four children. He was an active member of Gateway Church in Southlake. He attended many classes at Gateway and loved spending time there fellowshipping with other members. Ruven worked hard all his life in many different careers. He started out as a butcher at 16 years old working in a meatpacking plant and a grocery store, then moved on to become a chef at a Mexican restaurant. He then worked as a DJ at Eagle Mountain Lake where he made numerous friends. He enjoyed meeting new people and always had a smile on his face wherever he went. Whether it was to lend a helping hand, a couple of dollars or a sympathetic ear, he was there for you. He will truly be missed by his family and all of his friends. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ruven Sr. and Nellie Herrera. Survivors: Daughters, Cynthia Herrera and Catherine Herrera of Fort Worth; grandchild, Isabelle Marie Herrera; brother, Edward Herrera and his wife, Tracy; sister, Anna Esparza and her husband, Andres; sister, Carolyn Vidana; nine nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Ruven F. Herrera Jr son of Ruven V. Herrera Sr and Manuela (Nellie) Montez Herrera.
Jr was very jovial always willing to lend a hand even when one was not needed. He would light up a room as big as his belly, just an all around awesome man.
My sincerest condolences, thoughts and prayers are with all who were part of my Uncle Jr's life. Especially to all family and friends unable to come together to celebrate the life of Ruven F. Herrera Jr in his finale passing. He will missed...

Praying and Thinking about what a joyful, smiling, giving, strong, and mighty man Ruven was. He will be missed by all. He was an inspiration of faith and impacted everyone he met with his excitement about God, and Gateway Church. I share this loss with his friends and family but I also celebrate his eternal life without pain or suffering.

Cynthia, Cathy, & family,

I am truly sorry for your loss. Ruven was the best DJ at Porky's. He was one of the only people that would play MY songs - haha. Great memories that brings a smile to my face. We never know when the Lord needs us, but your daddy was much too young. You all are in my prayers and God is holding you tight. I love you all. Rest in peace, Ruven.
