Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday at Airport Freeway Church of Christ. Interment: 3 p.m. Saturday at Mount Olivet Cemetery. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mount Olivet Chapel.
Shirley was preceded in death by her mother and father, Minerva Nena and Edward Self; her husband, Joe Avery; her sons, Michael and Tracy Bruce; and her granddaughter, Chantelle Menton.
Shirley is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Grover and Cyndi Bruce; her daughter and son-in-law, Shonda and Jose Garcia; her sisters, Iona Frank and Evon Wardlow; 13 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren, who all called her "Nana".
Shirley was married to Joe Avery for 23 years, retired from Miller Brewery as a supervisor, and was a member of Airport Freeway Church of Christ for over 20 years.
She was the rock of her family. She was loyal, dependable and strong in her faith. She had a love and laughter that filled every room she entered and never met a stranger. She used every opportunity to share Christ with all she knew. She will be greatly missed.
