Steve Towne Obituary

Steve Towne DALLAS -- On September 27, Steve Towne passed away peacefully at the age of 69, after a long, courageous battle with ALS. SERVICE: Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 4-6 p.m. Funeral service will be on Sunday, October 1, at 2 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas. Born on January 22, 1948 to Max and Jean Towne, Steve grew up in Kimballton, Iowa with his sisters Carol and Barb and his brother Bruce. Attending Elk Horn High School, he was a star varsity athlete and graduated valedictorian in 1966. As a freshman at the University of Nebraska, he played first base for the Cornhuskers, before transferring to TCU to finish his degree. Steve was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at both schools, eventually becoming Sig Ep Chapter President at TCU. Graduating in 1970, he married fellow TCU student Carol Ann Zieve soon after. To provide for his new family, Steve worked a public accounting job at a Big 8 accounting firm until he left to start his own CPA practice in 1976. And for the next 40 years, Steve worked tirelessly to help his many clients with accounting and tax controversy work. One of his biggest joys in life was helping the little guy fight the IRS in negotiations or in court. Other big joys in his life included his grandkids, the Dallas Cowboys, Nebraska and TCU sports, history, traveling, politics, classic rock and the blues, stocks and investing, and patriotism for this country. SURVIVORS: Steve Towne is survived by his wife Carol, his son Jeff and wife Amy, his daughter Andrea and husband Steve, and grandkids Nathan, Lucas, Elizabeth, and Colin.
