Walter Hahn Obituary

Walter Hahn
December 1, 1926 - January 13, 2022
Fort Worth, Texas - Walter LeRoy Hahn, age 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning January 13, 2022 at his home in Ft. Worth, Texas.
Walter was born on December 1,1926 to Bertha and Jay Hahn in Duncan, Oklahoma. He had an older sister, Helen. His family moved to Kermit, Texas where he and his sister grew up.
He attended and graduated from Texas A&M in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering. His work experience began with Texaco as a petroleum engineer. Then, after working for Fred Hodge and then William Fuller as a petroleum engineer he became an independent petroleum engineer for many years. Walter was very lucky in that he loved his work as a petroleum engineer.
He met his future wife, Mary Ellen Ward, in college through mutual friends. They were married in Houston on February 23, 1951 and celebrated their seventieth wedding anniversary on February 23, 2021. Together they enjoyed many interests including their condo in Santa Fe, New Mexico, painting classes, art, symphony, travel, vacations with their family, and trips with their family to Charleston, South Carolina many summers.
He was a good and active father. Both he and Mary were involved in their three children's countless activities from Indian Guides to activities with the Scout troop to attending many ballet recitals to name a few. He was always there and always encouraged his children in whatever their activities or interests were.
Throughout his life he did volunteer work. He participated in volunteering his help with the Boy Scout troop 400 where both sons were involved. He and his wife, Mary, were active in their church, University Christian Church. There they taught Sunday school classes for a number of years, worked with Chi Rho youth groups, served as a deacon, and served on countless committees.
Walter was a very giving and genuine person. A wonderful and much loved husband to Mary and a wonderful and much loved father to Steve, Carol, and Neal.
Walter was the beloved husband for seventy years of Mary Hahn, loving father of Carol Hahn and the late Stephen Hahn and the late Neal Hahn, brother of the late Helen Hinkley, father in law of Lynn Hahn, grandfather of Allison Hahn (Zac Powell), and Taylor Hahn (Jade Olson), and great grandfather of Nova Hailey Powell.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday January 21, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of the Good Shepherd at University Christian Church. A graveside service will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park. Contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
