Wanda Bell Obituary

Wanda Bell, 79, left us very unexpectedly Monday, Feb. 8, 2010. Wanda was not only a great mom, Nana and Aunt Wanda to her family, she also was a great friend to so many.
Service: 3 p.m. Saturday in Laurel Land Memorial Chapel. Interment: Rosedale Cemetery in Ada, Okla. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Laurel Land Funeral Home of Fort Worth.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fort Worth Food Bank, American Red Cross, Fort Worth Symphony or a charity of choice.
Wanda was born, grew up and married in Oklahoma City. She left Oklahoma long enough to attend and graduate from Campion Academy in Loveland, Colo., being a member of the great class of 1949. In 1955, Wanda moved with her husband and newborn daughter to Dallas, where her husband taught school before going to work for IBM. IBM moved the family to upstate New York for two years, then moved them in 1961 to Fort Worth, where she lived the remainder of her life.
Wanda graduated from TCU College of Nursing and was invited to be among the first members of the TCU honor society, actually becoming a member of Sigma Theta Tau (the nursing honor society) and remained a member the rest of her life.
Wanda became a member of the Fort Worth Woman's Club in 1970, serving as treasurer, president, director of the club board and in other offices of departments at the Woman's Club.
When the Fort Worth Republican Woman's Group was formed, Wanda chose to join and remained a very active member ever since joining. She served as club president, parliamentarian and membership chair, and held other offices as well including precinct chair in Fort Worth. Wanda served on the TFRW board for several years, including district director and patron/regents co-chair. In 1996, she was honored by the TFRW "Tribute to Women" and in 2005 was awarded one of "10 Outstanding Women."
In the summer of 1974, Wanda worked as a volunteer relief nurse in Malawi, Africa, where she met Flora and Justin Nkumba. Over the years, Flora and Justin's children, DeWitt, Derwin, Debbie and Druscilla, came to regard Wanda as Grandma and are very much part of the family. She will be missed by many.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Laura Newton; her sister, Myrtle Lee Munroe; and her husband of 55 years, Robert Bell.
Survivors: Daughter, Deborah Silvera and husband, Rick; granddaughter, Andrea Taylor; great-grandson, Damian; grandchildren, DeWitt, Derwin, Debbie and Druscilla Nkumba; and numerous nieces and nephews.

I have just learned of Mrs. Bell's passing, but, I wanted to share a few brief thoughts in her honor.
It was my pleasure to have served Wanda as an insurance agent for the past few years.
She epitomized what it means to be a gracious lady.
Her care and concern for others was obvious. I even felt she extended it even to me.
I will miss the occassional visits with this accomplished, respectable, genuine lady.
I am a better person for having been touched by her character.
I will pray for those of you who knew her more closely as family and friends.

We met Wanda and Bob more than 30 years ago when they moved to our village in Hampshire, England and have been their friends ever since.
Wanda was a kind a generous person always ready to help others.
Thanks to her we visited more than half of the States in the USA. Wanda and Bob took us once on an extended tour by car of the USA covering 7 states and over 6000 miles.
They will always live in our memories.

I was able to travel with Wanda in November to the TFRW convention in Galveston. We had so much fun and so many laughs. She was a wonderful, caring and spirited Republican Woman. I loved her and will miss her so much. My thoughts and prayers to her family. She always talked about you with pride. I am so glad we were able to meet Delwin and hear about the impact she had on the lives of him and his family. Wanda was a class act! I will miss my friend and mentor.

Wow! This was really a shock to me, I had an e-mail from Wanda just a few days ago telling me of friends from Africa who were visiting, places she was thinking of traveling and all of the plans she had for her various pursuits. I should have kept the letters she wrote me over the years, she was a great traveler, her stories were much better than those in the travel books. She was a great friend and I miss her already.

Growing up in Fort Worth, Debi and I spent almost as much time at each other's homes, as we did at our own...Bob and Wanda were second parents to me, and we always had fun together. Memories of lunches after church, Sundays in the pool, and movie nights, will always be very special.... I was one of the family. Bob and Wanda were and always will be very special to me. I think about Bob's sense of humor often, and I will remember Wanda's stories of all of her travels. I still use some of the recipes she taught me to make...they are some of my favorites. Wanda, you will be missed very much.
Deb, Andrea, my thoughts and prayers are with you...love to you all.

Wanda and I graduated from Campion Academy, Loveland CO in 1949. Last September she was one of a special group of 17 classmates who were celebrating our 60th alumni reunion on the campus. We enjoyed her presence and sharing of memories. I will long remember a circle of prayer in the motel parking lot where 6 of us were preparing to leave and head home. Wanda was part of that circle and although saddened, I now look forward to the time when all 6 of us can form another circle in the very presence of Jesus. Meantime may He bring comfort to all family and friends while we await a better reunion.

George and Dolores Ramsey
We have lost a long-time friend from school days. We grieved with her over the loss of Bob and now will miss her, her phone calls, and fun travel 'reports'. She had a busy and interesting life. Our condolences to the family.

I have known Wanda and her family since I was a kid. We attended the same church and they were very close friends of our family. I have some great memories of our times together with them. Wanda was a very kind and caring person. She will be missed very much. My thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends.

All my love and condolences to my childhood friend, Debi and her family.
My thoughts and prayers are with you as you deal with the loss of your very special Mother. I was fortunate to have known Wanda when I was a little girl. I have years and years of treasured memories of being warmly welcomed in your home. I don't think I was ever asked to leave, and your Mother always made me feel like part of the Bell family. When I look back on my youth in Ft. Worth, Texas, it is you and Wanda that I remember most. She touched my life in many ways and now I see she did the same for countless others through the years. May you be comforted now, knowing how much she meant to so many.
Love, Nancy Horne Ventura

I knew Wanda through our times at NFRW Board meetings and events! She had a servant's heart and dedication. I express my condolences to her family on this sad yet joyous time...I know she is with her Lord and Savior, her Heavenly Father and she is eternally with them. May God bless you who have been left behind and may God fill your heart with the knowledge Wanda is with her Heavenly Shepard.

I knew Wanda through Sister Cities, and enjoyed working on projects with her. She had the gift of hospitality, and often hosted visitors from other countries. She eagerly helped us with travel plans, and even generously offered our family use of her London flat. She was an intelligent, involved, caring person, and we will miss her very much.

I would like to offer my deepest sympathies to Wanda's family, friends, and to the many people whose lives she helped to make better and whom she encouraged to 'think outside the box'
myself being one of them. I met Wanda
many years ago through the Business Professional Women's club. She was always kind to me and her actions were empowering. I had the opportunity to visit with Wanda right before Thanksgiving and we had such a good time laughing and catching up on everything from politics to her travels to even what colors I would use to paint my kitchen and living room. That is my friend, Wanda and how I will always remember her and cherish our friendship.

We saw Wanda at Symphony concerts, Symphony League events, and often at Sister Cities events. She told us about her visit to Swaziland, before we visited there last August (for the 5th anniversary of her trip there when the Sister City relationship was signed). She volunteered to host Anna Merey, violinist from Budapest, Hungary who performed here in 2007. She loved having Anna in her home, and took her around Fort Worth. She was always eager to help in community activities, and she will be sorely missed. Our condolences to Wanda's family and friends...
