Willard Pratt Obituary

Willard "Buddy" Pratt, 82, passed away Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011. Memorial service: 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Grapevine Unity Church, 1650 Hughes Road, Grapevine. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Texas Girls' Choir or Fort Worth Animal Control. Buddy was born in Lake Arthur, La., on April 27, 1929. He moved to Fort Worth when he was 8 years old. He started working for his uncle at Bailey's Barbeque in downtown Fort Worth in 1945. He bought the business from his uncle in 1961 and successfully ran it until 1994 when he retired and his daughter Brenda took over. Buddy liked to ice skate when he was young, and later he rode motorcycles with the rest of the family. One of his favorite pastimes was playing Keno with his systems; he spent hours working out how he was going to play the game. He also enjoyed his two grandchildren and taking his dog on long walks. Buddy was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Tarter. Survivors: Wife of 54 years, Helen; daughters, Kathy and husband, Mike Mitchell, Brenda and Mike Grant, and Shari Pratt; grandsons, Conner and Kamden Mitchell; twin sister, Wilma Harris; brother, Lester Pratt and wife, Pauline; extended family and friends; and last, but not least, his Beagle, Barney.

Dear Pratt Family,

I would like to humbly offer our sincerest sympathy on behalf of the Reaney and Ballinger families. Dave and Dorothy I know with a certainty will be waiting to usher him in with a big hug. Phyllis, Dave Jr., Frank, my dad Roger and myself all would have liked to been able to make it to the service but time and life seems to have scattered us so far these days. You are all always in our prayers, but especially so during this difficult time. Much, much love

We wish we could be there with the family today but it was just impossible for us to make the trip from Indiana. The Pratt and Bailey families are as close as any two families could be, and the memories we share are truly beautiful and everlasting. I loved Buddy like a brother, and my folks, I know, loved him as their son. Our prayers are with each of you as we all mourn the loss of Buddy, a dear, sweet cousin and a wonderful man. Our love & heartfelt sympathies to all,
Joanne (Jodie-Blonde as Buddy used to call me) and John

Dear Lucy and Kathy, Brenda and Shari,

I was so sad to hear about Buddy's passing. He was such a joy to be around and a wonderful man. I still remember when I was a girl when all of you would come and visit us in Palacios. I just loved those visits. I always looked forward to them. Please accept my sincerest sympathy. Love, Cindy

Pratt Family,
We were so sorry to hear about Buddy's passing. Buddy was a really wonderful and funny guy. We will always remember Buddy working at the TGC camp and bringing Judy sandwiches when he carpooled to choir. Know our prayers are with all of you at this time.
