“Mr.Sultan,” as I respectively and affectionately addressed him, was a positive and kind influence on me at a confused time in my life as a young man. I was interested in the music of Bach and Handel and wanted to learn to play the violin, double bass and cello. Mr. Sultan helped me to learn and appreciate music that gives glory and honor unto the Lord Jesus Christ for which I am forever thankful. He was a very gracious man and left an indelible impression on me and I will always remember him playing Bach’s Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin (BWV 1001-1006) for me which was wonderful. He was also the father of a dear friend of mine, his son, Aaron, to whom I send my deepest condolences and his family. Each time we hear the sublime sound of the strings in an orchestra, let’s remember “Mr.Sultan,” and thank our Lord that we were able to know this man along our pilgrimage in this world.

Bill was a good friend to many. Often, things didn't have to be said, we just laughed. He will be missed, but he will be around for a long, long time. Above a great craftsman, he was a good soul!
God be with the families

My deepest sympathies to all of Bill's family. Bill taught my daughter while she was a student in the Glassboro School System, and he and I were friends for all those years and years after she graduated. His loss to the music community will be great. Blessings on all those who mourn his passing.

Our deepest condolences to all family and friends...We bought our first home from Bill, (which was his old house)...He was optimistic of a "nice young couple" interested in buying his home, when there were other seasoned bidders at the time.
We were lucky enough to know him as a neighbor and friend-across-the-street...Over the years, it was nice to have a chat about old Pittsgrove, new town builds, art, music, and town happenings.
We will never forget Bill's kindness and are honored to have known him. Our thoughts are with his family...
Friends across the street,
Amy and Jay

Bill was a quiet gentleman who always had kind, keen insight into the problems we educators had at Glassboro High School. In addition, there was many a time in the late afternoon that we could find Bill catching a cat nap on the faculty room sofa. It became known as Bill's sofa. When Bill left Glassboro, Steve Selby took up the honor. I remember Bill fondly.

So sad, Mr. Sultan was a good man, he passed on his passion for music to many of his students. He was my violin teacher and conductor of our elementary school orchestra in the 70's at Thomas E. Bowe School. I remember those years fondly.

I am in shock, deeply saddened by this news, my thoughts and prayers go out to Mr Sultans family and friends. I recently found Mr Sultan again thru a strange twist of events, he built my first fiddle many ,many years ago. ( which had since been destroyed thru an accident) On a trip home to Mullica Hill a few months back i visited with him, what a wonderful warm soul n spirit he had. We visited and he spoke of how his wife was making a pie he was looking forward to enjoying with her a little later. He shared with me his stories and we spoke of farming and my jam making.
I comissioned him to build me another fiddle at that time, i found exactly the perfect one hanging on top of his work table. I spoke with him just last week and he said it would be done soon, as he wanted to have three for me to choose from. My heart breaks as i realize he won't be there when i come to pick it up......somehow i feel the one that is done is going to be just perferct, as it will now be even more special to me. My tears are streaming down now for this incredible man whom brought happiness and joy to so many musicians ( and prospering ones too). He truly shared his passion, and i am truly blessed to have known him ~

I vividly remember the first time I stepped in Bill's shop. I was 10 years old and ready to purchase my first viola. I remember he spent hours with me, letting me try instruments, telling me all about how the instruments were made and repaired, and just talking about our common love of music. I always looked forward to the days when I had a reason to go back to his shop. A huge loss for the NJ music community :(

Jack, I couldn't have said it better myself. His passing comes as such a shock to me. Bill became a good friend to me over the past few years and he helped me so much in starting my career as a Strings teacher. He will be greatly missed.

Bill was a great inspiration, mentor, and comedian, who helped me succeed as a string teacher. My only hope is that he knew how much he meant to so many musicians and that his commitment and contribution to Music Education has been immeasurable. I’ll miss you my friend. Thank you for everything and may you find Peace, Eternal Rest, and “First Chair” in God’s Heavenly Orchestra.
