William O. "Bill" Vandever Jr.
October 30, 1942 - September 17, 2021
Arlington, Texas - William O. "Bill" Vandever Jr., dad, papaw, brother, uncle and friend died peacefully at home surrounded by family on September 17, 2021 in Arlington, Texas after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 78.
Bill was born on October 30, 1942 in Stephenville, Texas to William and Chlona Vandever. He graduated from Stephenville High School in 1960. He married Janice in 1963 and moved to Fort Worth where they settled and raised three daughters. In 1986, Bill married Jackie and gained three more children. Bill worked many years for Santa Fe BNSF Railroad, retiring in 1994. After retirement, he took a position at JPS Hospital, transporting cancer meds and patients needing assistance. Bill finally settled into retirement and became involved with the Tarrant County Extension Office as a Master Gardener. He was very passionate about his backyard and greenhouse. Bill enjoyed taking road trips with his daughters exploring sites around the US.
Bill was proceeded in death by his parents; his sister, Sue Yarbrough and his wife of 32 years, Jackie Vandever.
Survivors: his brother, Jerry Vandever (Sherry); his children, Tammy Buttron (Troy), Melissa Lara (Michael) and Kelly Rondinaro; step-children, Bret Fischer (Stacy), Christine Tompkins (David) and Stephen Fischer (Beth); grandchildren, Violet, Morgan, Chloe, Sara, Isabella, Zachary, Trey, Christian, Lauren, Angie, Susanne, Holly, Luke, Rachel, Heidi and Stephen II; great-grandchildren, Annabelle, Brice, Camden, Paisley, Nolan and Rena; and many other family, friends and neighbors.
A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 7:00 pm at Hurst Conference Center, Ballroom DEF, 1601 Campus Dr., Hurst, Texas. Brother Bryan Eason will officiate the service. Family will receive visitors at 6:00 pm in the ballroom.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bill's life. The family would like to thank Kevin James for his loving patience; and Krystal Timmons, Home Instead and Total Hospice for the care of their dad. Bill's wish was to have his body donated to science and research at UNT.
