Alfred Davis Obituary

DAVIS Alfred Leon Davis was born to the late Benjamin F. and Cecile Davis, Sr. on December 28, 1935, in Charleston, West Virginia. He attended the public schools of Kanawha County in West Virginia. Alfred, along with his identical twin brother, Alexander was employed by the Charleston Milling Company. He along with his other siblings was raised in the Glorious Church of God in Christ on Wertz Avenue in Charleston, WV, where he received his early training in the things of the Lord. He relocated to Columbus, Ohio, where he began working for the City of Columbus and continued working until his retirement. He met the beautiful, Shirley E. Sawyer (deceased) and they were joined in holy matrimony on September 17, 1969 and together they raised a wonderful family. Alfred was an avid sports fan and quite a hunter and fisherman. And could he do some bragging about his favorite teams and telling how many squirrels and rabbits he got and fish he caught. He was quite a "man" whom everybody loved and counted him a friend. Without a doubt he will be greatly missed. He leaves to cherish his memory: daughters, Earnestine Parks, Idelia Parks, Judith Brewer and Scherry Gilbert; and sons, Ernest Parks, Jr. and Benjamin Parks; ll grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all of Columbus, OH; a brother, Robert S. (Doris) Davis, Sr. of Columbia, MD; a sister, Maritza (Eric) Beckham of Newark, NJ; a brother, Christopher (Tameka) Davis of Roanoke, VA; and a step-mother, Dorothy Davis of Newark, NJ; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral service on Friday, March 21, 2008, at 10 a.m. in the chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long Street, where the family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the start of services. Interment Evergreen Burial Park. To view the online guest book, please visit www.diehl-whittaker.com. I'll most remember his smile, especially when he saw all of us when we visited him after attending Uncle Ben's funeral. Little did he know he made all our day! We miss him already!
