Alvin Payne Obituary

PAYNE Alvin Payne, 80, passed away Thursday, November 20, 2008 at St. Ann's Hospital. Born January 5, 1928. Preceded in death by parents James and Nettie Payne, sister Margurite Posey and long time companion Gloria Peters. He served in the US Navy and US Army during WWII. He retired from 7UP Bottling Company. Survived by sons, Marcus Payne, Alvin Payne Jr. and Brian Payne; daughters, Gina (Bryant) Rushton, Kimberly Payne and Jakkie Middleton, Dallas, TX; brothers, Melvin (Louella) Payne, Charles (Dolores) Payne; sister, Audrey (Theodore) Alexander; aunt, Lillian Huff; 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; and a host of other family and friends. Funeral service 2 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2008 in the chapel of DIEHL-WHITTAKER FUNERAL SERVICE, 720 E. Long Street, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until time of service. I remember when I first moved into my house, I would awaken every Saturday morning to the noise of Alvin in my back yard cutting my grass. It always amazed me, because I never once ever asked him to do that, I guess it was just something that he enjoyed doing, to keep the yard looking nice.
