Andrew Izzo Obituary

IZZO Andrew Joseph Izzo, age 65, passed away at St. Ann's Hospital on Tuesday, March 15, 2011. Son of the late Jack and Helen (Rajnic) Izzo, he is survived by his bothers, Gerard (Carol) of Powell, Ohio and Joseph (Lisa) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; nieces, Theresa Helen, Sarah; and nephews, Joseph, Jr. and Michael (Sarah). Andrew was a resident of Villa Angela Care Center in Columbus. Born on March 19, 1945 in Astoria, Queens, New York, Andy graduated from Bayside High School and attended Wittenberg and Ohio Wesleyan Universities. An autodidact, bibliophile and scholar with a keen mind, he had a lifelong thirst for reading, learning and knowledge of history, politics, languages, religion, geography and cultures. He was a dedicated Catholic who loved his faith and its theology. He was an involved Democrat who believed in the traditional liberal cause. A gourmand who reveled in the joys of good food, drink and cigars, Andy also possessed an eclectic fondness for music, from Byzantine liturgical and Gregorian chant to Edith Piaf, Judy Collins and Eastern European folkmusic. His favorite films were: Dr. Zhivago, A Man For All Seasons, Becket and The Producers. From childhood, Andy had an affinity for ocean beaches, autumn foliage and historical travel. He was a genuinely unique and much loved son, brother and uncle. Funeral services were held for the immediate family at St. John Chrysostom's Byzantine-Catholic Church with Reverend Terrance Farmer, presiding. Interment followed at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center, Ohio. Blessed Repose and Eternal Memory! RUTHERFORD FUNERAL HOME at POWELL assisted the family. www.rutherfordfuneralhomes.com.
