Arthur Broomfield Obituary

Broomfield Sr. Arthur F. "Bill" Broomfield, Sr., 98, was born on April 29, 1917 in Guthrie, Oklahoma to John and Clemmie Broomfield. Arthur obeyed the gospel of Christ becoming a life-long member of Church of Christ. In 1942 at age 25, he enlisted in the United States Army/AirCorp, a segregated military station in Tuskegee Alabama. He met and married Dorothy Sutton and remained married for 57 years until her death in 2004. He and his wife settled in Columbus to raise their four children, Marvina, Denise, Carmen and Arthur Broomfield, Jr. He was a faithful member of Southfield Church of Christ until the Lord called him from labor to reward on Tuesday, August 25, 2015. Preceded in death by parents, wife Dorothy (Sutton) Broomfield, siblings Leon, Elmer, Charles, Vivian, and Merlene Broomfield, daughter Marvina L. Thomas. Survived by daughters, Denise L. Broomfield, Carmen L. Tubbs; son, Arthur F. (Tarji) Broomfield, Jr.; sisters, Dollie Chapman, Hazel Williams; brother-in-law, Sylvester (Barbara) Sutton; ten grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends and church family. Home going Service 11 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2015 at Watkins Road Church of Christ, 1614 Watkins Road, where the family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of service. I had the honor escorting the Tuskegee Airmen while they visited Rickenbacker NGAFB formerly Lockbourn AFB. I admired their military service but these gentlemen also excelled in civilian life after their service to their Country. May Arthur rest in peace.
