Julie,
You know how much your dad meant to all of us at Sunrise. We loved every bit of him, especially his sense of humor.
He is missed, there's no doubt about it. He'll always be in my heart as a treasured memory.
Come by and see us!
I love you, miss you.

Dearest Julie,

I was saddened at your father's passing. He lived a long and accomplished life. Life passes by so swiftly. I remember visiting Uncle Ben's home in Indiana and a larger one in Horseheads. (One year with watermelons on the sides of the driveway!) My clearest memories though, are of Dublin.

How I loved our family visits to Dublin with the feeling of isolation among the trees, the raccoon families, the birds, and, of course, the dog. Sometimes we would venture into the yard and thin out the trees. Later, I was allowed to run the Gravely. Always there was a pervasive undercurrent of love. The Jacoby family always made me feel like I was family. In the best sense of the term.

An MG darts in and out of my memory as does a Gravely and a motorcycle. Memories are odd things. I don't remember specific comments but I was always aware of just how proud Ben was of you and how important his wife, his family and his business were to him. When I would go into town with him there was always respect for him.

Uncle Ben seemed always able to tackle a problem and find a solution. He was a good man to look up to, an example to follow. He taught me many things. Curiously, one of my strongest memories was that of deliberation. I remember well his often-spoke caution to "Handle like eggs." I find myself to this day invoking the same restraint on myself and sometimes on others.

It has been a scant two years since his beloved wife, Jayne, departed. I'm sure that he missed her dearly. Certainly, they will find each other again. I will quaff a beer and smoke a cigar in his honor.

With my heartfelt love and many virtual hugs across the miles,
I am yours,
Mike

Julie . . . I find it difficult to honor your Dad's life without also acknowledging your Mom. To say that they were two very special people is an incredible understatement. That they both gave selflessly of themselves in helping my parents cope toward the end of their lives will never be forgotten. Ben and Jayne both understood the real meaning of friendship . . that is for sure! One of the great joys of my life was being able to help them cope with their old age. I will always be grateful for having been able to refer to them as friends!

Warm regards,

Ric
