Aunt Jenny and Uncle Rick

March 3, 2007

Ben,
Although I was your Aunt, growing up with you made you my little brother. The memories will be cherished forever especially all the driving trips to the lake and Myrtle Beach in which I was forced to listen to your music. Rick and I were so honored to have you in our wedding and my memories of dancing with you will never be forgotten. The last time I saw you, you were so excited about Rick and I having a baby. I wish you could meet her. Rick and I are comforted in the thought that you are with Grandpa Holt watching over her. We love you Ben!

My skiing buddy, you were such a blessing to Grandpa and me. You were such a sweet boy and having you around kept me young. I will miss your frequent visits and hearing about your dreams and plans. You have a special place in my heart. I miss you and I will love you always. Love, Grandma Holt

Jamie,
In the past year that I've known you, I've grown to know how amazing of a person Ben was without even having the honor of meeting him. I know how much he meant to you. When I first heard of this tragedy, you were the first person I thought of. I've prayed for you and hoped that you'd be able to get through this incredibly hard time in your life with ease. You're an amazing person and I know you'll get through this! Everyone is here for you and I pray that you'll be able to find joy in this time of sadness.
All the best and come back soon 'cause we miss you so much!!

To Joe, John, Chris, Jenny & Jan,

I am so sorry for your loss of Ben. From what I have read about him and heard about him he obviously was a very, very special person. He certainly came from a special family.
I have known this family since Ben's dad, Joey, was a little boy and I was the family's babysitter. When I was a young girl, this wonderful family took me under their wing and nurtured me and made me feel valued and loved. I grew up with the Holts and they will always hold a special place in my heart. Ben was blessed to grow up with this family.

I moved away from Ohio to Alaska 30 years ago, before Ben was born, so I never really knew him. He was the same age as my first born son!

God give you all strength through the difficult hours, days and years ahead. Be grateful that you have your family to support each other as grief can be very lonely. I love you all and have you in my thoughts and prayers.

Jamie and Ben,
You have been a rock to me for so long. Life was never the same once we became as close as we are now. I will hold every memory dear to me in my heart. Words can not express my feelings for you both right now. I love you both with every fiber of my being. Ben will be greatly missed, but never forgotten. He brought me joy when I was sad just by smiling. For that I will be internally greatful. I love you both more today than I did yesterday and not nearly as much as tomorrow.

Jamie,

Jamie, you are family. I have thought alot about what I would say in this guestbook...I am still not sure how to write how much I love you, and how much I will miss Ben. Just know that I am here...as you have been there for me so many times.
I would like to share with you the beauty I have seen over the last few days. I have seen your family/friends wrap their love around you as if to say "we know this will not take the pain away but know you are loved."
I have found peace in the fact that both Ben and you have enriched so many lives in a variety of ways and meanings. This is evident by the tears and laughter shared by those who surround you as stories are told of Bens "isms".
Ben deeply touched all who met him. I am honored to have been a part of his life as I am honored to be a part of yours.
I love you, Jamie!!!

Ben,

You are a big part of our family and the memories that we all share, the many family trips to Myrtle Beach, summers at Cedar Point and of course our unforgetable trip to Kings Island, most recently the wedding cake that you hand made, carrot cake my favorite. We will miss you very much but will never forget you and I'm sure if you can convince grandpa, you'll have him out so you can try out your new wings.

Love, Uncle John

Jamie,

I cannot find the words to express how sorry I am for your loss. I know how much Ben means to you. Trust that he will be with you forever. You guys were there for me through the roughest time in my life and I cannot express my gratitude to you and Ben. I love you so much and want you to know that if there is anything I can do for you to not hesitate to call me.

I love you,

Dear Ben,

It's amazing to think that we've known each other for 20 years! I have been truly blessed by these past few years during which our friendship has grown so strong. It breaks my heart that you are no longer here with us in person, but I can already feel your mischevious presence in its new form. Every memory of you brings with it at least a smile, if not a laugh. Have fun on your new adventure, and I'll see you again on the other side.

Love,
Abbey

Dearest Jamie and Ben,

Don't be afraid. You are safe. You are surrounded by true love. I am blessed in my life in calling you both my friends. Your smiles, laughter, our conversations, dinners, times together are many of my fondest memories. Where would I be without you? Although my heart aches for you both, I know all will be well. Ben, we will celebrate your life and remember you with good food, good wine, good music and good times. Jamie, we will always be here for you.

I love you both.

My deepest sympathies go out to the family and friends of Ben. I know what a shock you must be feeling. Ben was just the greatest person. It's very hard to believe that he is gone. He has been such an important part of our La Tavola family and not just because of his incredible baking and cooking talents, but he really made quite an impression on my 2 year old niece. She talks about him every day. She likes to wear her black high top converse shoes..she calls them "Ben's Shoes". He will be greatly missed by many.

My dearest boo-boo,

Honey, I have been so blessed and very honored to have you as my son. You were a special light to me and everyone you came in contact with. You always loved everyone.

I am so saddened that our time together has been cut short boo-boo but there must be other work for you to do now.

You will always have that special place in my heart forever son, and I will miss you terribily.

Your short time on this earth has given hope and inspiration to so many people. You were definately a sweet angel while here.

I love you boo-boo, with all my heart, mind and soul. Honey, you will never be forgotten and we will be together again. I love you so much sweetheart,

Mom

Since I moved away from Columbus, I have remembered my friend Ben. We lost touch and for almost two years now. Last week one of our mutual friends told him that I wanted to hear from him. I never did.

I have missed him for the past two years and now must find my way to Cols to say goodbye to him on Saturday.

Ben and I were good friends, comrades, and brothers. To those of you who were closer to him, I send my deepest sympathies for your loss.

Ben had a genuine heart, unique vision, and lust for life. I admired and was inspired by his compassion and concern for the disenfranchised and unempowered people in his community - especially the youth.

His absence is regrettable. He leaves behind important and impassioned ideals in his artwork and his interpersonal relations. I hope that all of you work that much harder to compensate for the loss of what Ben was working to create.

We love you Ben Holt. You lived many lifetimes worth of experience and discovered many layers of wisdom in your relatively short existence.

Rest In Peace, Brother.

Christa and Joe. Our hearts are saddened with your loss. Our prayers are with you. I don't know what kind of man Ben became since I had not seen him since he was a small boy. But as a child, I remember him as an inward gazing person. Perhaps it was the artist budding even then.We share your pain. Sandy & Linda Crockrell

Ben, You were such a wonderful person! Even though our time together was unfortunately at work or non-profit organizations....I loved every minute we had together. Ben, you were, and still are in our hearts, such a wonderful person. The things you did for people you didn't even know is priceless. You have touched so many lives, and your love for people will beat on in those that knew you and those you have helped. I wish I could have gotten to know you better, but I know that someday we will all be united once again. I will hold onto the memories I have and always know that you will forever be in my heart. Thank you for allowing me to know you and for enriching my life. You will be dearly missed.

Ben was such a wonderful and sensitive person. His humor and wit made him a joy to be near. I am honored to have had the privelege of being called his friend. La Tavola will never be the same without him, we will miss him, and his way of always making work so fun. He was a talented artist and a dear friend.

I had the privilege to know Ben Holt as a young man who had tremendous compassion and care for those in need.

As a talented aspiring artist Ben demonstrated his incredible generosity and compassion by donating several pieces of his extraordinary art to raise funds to help protect children and families victimized by violent crime.

His desire to give, even as a struggling artist in the pursuit of his dreams, revealed a young man with a loving heart and compassionate soul.

Ben’s life and caring nature made a difference in the lives of children victimized by crime.

My deepest sympathy and prayers are with his family and circle of friends.

Dear Grandson Ben,
The Lord is your shepherd, you shall not want. He makes you to lie down in green pastures: He leads you beside the still waters. He restores your soul. He leads you in the paths of righteousness for His name's sake. Even though you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you will fear no evil: for thou art with Him; thy rod and thy staff they comfort you. Thou preparest a table before me in the prescence of my enemies: thou annointest my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow you all the days of your life: and you will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.

I had only just become friends with Ben through Chris Weiss and Kyle Kauffman. He was the biggest sweetheart and I will never forget his beautiful smile. When I read the wonderful review the Other Paper gave him, I was so proud to say I knew Ben.

I'm so very sorry for your loss and hope you can find comfort knowing he will be looking upon you from the heavens.

Ben's passage is a loss for all who knew him.

His demeanor was always one of kindness and consideration.

His love and eternal devotion to his grandparents was so evident each time I spoke with him.

Ben often stated just how fortunate his was for having such wonderful grandparents as a guiding force in his life. His love and devotion for them with be forever present.

May God's love and mercy be with all at this most difficult of times.
