Bernice Belcher Obituary

Belcher, Bernice
1939 - 2021
On July 23, 2021 an angel named Bernice ascended into heaven. Bernice (Johnson) Belcher was born in Ludowici, Georgia on June 9, 1939, the first child to Thomas Clarence and Ready Mae Johnson. Bernice is survived by her son, Mr. Isaac L. Belcher Jr of Columbus, Ohio; daughter, Ms. LeWonnie Belcher of Woodbridge, Virginia; sister, Ms. Verdia Thompson of Columbus, Ohio; stepson, Mr. Terrance L. Middleton of Columbus, Ohio; niece, Ms. Amia Johnson, and great nephew, Mr. Joseph Copeland of Springfield, Ohio; sister-in-law, Ms. Agnes Johnson; daughter-in-law, Ms. Wanda Belcher; grandson, Mr. Eric L. Green of Columbus, Ohio; granddaughters, Ms. Tenisha I. Belcher, Ms. Aiesha M. Belcher, Ms. Amanda Middleton, Ms. Aaliya Middleton, and Ms. Varsey Green; great granddaughter, Ms. Elle Green; and great grandson, Mr. Lincoln Green of Columbus, Ohio; nieces, Ms. Sanita Johnson, Ms. Darlene Belcher, Ms. Lori Belcher, Ms. Genelle Pullien, Ms. Georgia Slayton of Columbus, Ohio; nephews, Mr. Daniel Warren, Mr. Christopher Warren, Mr. Antonio Johnson, Mr. Cabel Jones of Columbus, Ohio, Mr. Roderick Gravely of London, Ohio, Mr. Dalton Belcher, Mr. Michael Belcher, and Mr. Arthur Belcher of Richmond, VA; cousins, the Lovely Family of Columbus, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan; and a host of other family and friends too numerous to mention. A graduate of Walker High School in Long County, Georgia, Bernice relocated to Columbus, Ohio in 1959 where she met and fell in love with Isaac L. Belcher Sr. Together they raised three children—Cynthia, Isaac Jr, and LeWonnie. A mother to all, Bernice also raised her niece, Amia, following the death of her brother Joseph, and embraced the role of stepmother to Terrance L. Middleton. In addition to being an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and wise counselor, Bernice was also an exceptional member of the medical profession for more than 45 years. During that time, she served as a nursing assistant at the Ohio State University Hospitals, a home healthcare aide for Ms. Donna Rose Spretnak, and as a medical technician for the Columbus Center for Human Services. In addition, she assisted friends and Family members in their time of need—including her beloved husband, Isaac; sister-in-law, Louise Jones; and dear neighbor, Ms. Janie L. Hayden. In her spare time, Bernice spent time with Family and friends, redecorating her house, gardening, and taking care of her pet babies —Sammie Jo, Olive, and Precious. A memorial service is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 2 at 10AM at the O.R. Woodyard Funeral Home, 1346 S. High Street, Columbus, Ohio with interment to follow at Glen Rest Memorial Estate in Reynoldsburg, Ohio.

I miss BB so much, we talked about everything. We worked for Columbus Center and bounded like glue. Rest on my angel until we meet again.

Sending love and sympathy to all of Bernice's family and friends. I know she will be missed. I worked with Bernice at OSU. What a joy she was! Always with a smile on her face, she brought peace where there was chaos. A hard worker, she cared for the patients with love, respect and quiet efficiency. I believe Bernice truly loved what she did - she certainly was loved back.
May she rest in peace.

Family I would like to express my deepest sympathy. I knew Bernice on a personal level and she was very wise indeed. We worked together at Columbus Center for Human Services. I will miss her sense of humor, laugh, and beautiful smile. You are finally back with Ike and Cynthia. Watch over us my friend until we meet again . . . . Love Yo always
