Carol DeMars Obituary

DeMars Carol Emily DeMars. On Tuesday, December 2, 2015, God chose another beautiful flower for his bouquet. Our funny, fun-loving, silly, goofy, kind, wonderful, and loving sister, Carol Emily DeMars, 76, of The Lakes of Monclova, passed into the loving arms of God at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, South Detroit Avenue. Carol was born June 17, 1939, to Theodore and Bertha (Jones) DeMars, of Maumee, Ohio, where she grew up and graduated from Maumee High School in 1957. She worked for the government until she retired in 1994, starting out as a clerk typist at the Rossford Ordnance Depot, where military vehicles were stored and maintained until it closed in 1962. She then moved to Pasadena, California, to continue her employment with the government, until she returned to Ohio in 1972, to work at the Defense Construction Supply Center, Whitehall, Ohio, from where she retired in 1994. She was a long-time resident of Reynoldsburg, Ohio, until she returned to the Maumee area in 2012. Carol was an avid reader, often going to the library on a weekly basis to check out 4-5 books, only to return them the following week to check out 4 or 5 more. Her favorites were true stories of people who could overcome adversity, and a series of books about a fictional town known as "Mitford." She was also a talented painter who loved to paint wood ducks. She loved to shop but was always generous with giving to those in need. But her greatest gift was her ability to make people smile or laugh and was always ready with a joke. Carol was preceded in death by her parents Ted and Bertha, older sister Margaret Ann "Peg" Grund, and brother-in-law, John Bradley. She is survived by her long-time companion and significant other, Robert Sherrieb of Gahanna, Ohio; sisters, Ellen Bradley and Becky Stamper; brother-in-law, Darst (Eloise) Grund; cousins, Bud Clark (Bonnie) and Nancy Atkins (John); nephews, Ted (Sue) Grund, Steven (Anna) Grund; nieces, Deborah (Michael) Aked, Shelley (Ken) Halfpap, Cindy (Michael) Wagner, Jill (Steven) Niehoff; and many great nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at Hospice of Northwest Ohio, South Detroit Avenue, with a special thank you to Japhia, Mandy, Kelli, Tonya, and Kesha. Memorial Services will be private. Memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association Northwest Region, 2400 N. Reynolds Road #2, Toledo, Ohio 43615 or Hospice of Northwest Ohio, 30000 E. River Road, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551. Arrangements by MAISON-DARDENNE-WALKER FUNERAL HOME, Maumee. Carol was such a special friend to me for so very long, over 20 years. I have missed her so much since she moved up by Toledo. We used to shop, go to lunch or dinner or just sit and talk. We just had fun being together. She was always laughing & joking and always made me feel better when I was with her. She loved life, her home, her dogs, her ceramics and art and she made beautiful pieces and was so proud of them. Fortunately I have a couple of them she had given me. Lot's of good memories Carol and I. Carol, you will always be in my thoughts and I will love and miss you always. God bless you Carol and rest in peace with the Lord. You were taken from us way too soon.
My sincere sympathy to Ellen, Becky and Bob. May God help you all in this difficult time.
Love ~ Ginny Gregory

For more than twenty years,Carol took art classes regularly in my studio. She was a talented delightful lady. Always ready to learn new techniques. She had the ability to make everyone in the class laugh and have fun. Especially when she talked about her dogs. She has been missed since she moved up to the Toledo area to be near family. It was a pleasure to have known her and may she rest in peace in God's care.
