Cecil Skinner Obituary

SKINNER Cecil Ray Skinner, 72, of Sunbury, died unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, May 23, 2009 at White Lake, Ontario, Canada while walleye fishing. Born July 9, 1936 in Texarkana, Ark. to the late Robert H. and Ester V. (Cheatum) Skinner. He moved to Ohio in 1953 and lived with his brother Wayne and family. He graduated from New Albany High School in 1955 where he participated in sports and was quite an athlete playing baseball, basketball and football. Immediately after graduation he went to work for Ohio Bell, now AT&T, as a PBX Repairman and retired in 1986 with 31 years of service. Member of Eagles Aerie #3614 and former member and senior vice officer of VFW Post #8736. Cecil was inducted into the Army in August of 1959 and served one tour of duty in Korea and 55 days after he was discharged he was called back to duty for the Berlin Wall Crisis. Cecil was a man's man who enjoyed hunting deer, antelope and moose and fishing for walleye in Canada. After retirement he built the current family home for himself and wife Linda Sue. He always had a tender side when it came to his pets, especially his German Shepherd, Sarah. He was an extremely proud father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Linda Sue (Garee) Skinner and they were married May 23, 1980; son, Bradd (Gina) Skinner of Bristow, Va.; daughter,: Amberly Mayle of Englewood, Fla.; grandchildren, Derrick, Madison, and Donovan Cecil Skinner, Miranda and Mason Hritz; brothers, Ray (Edith), Pete (Nell), all of Dallas, Tex.; nephew, whom he considered a brother, Robert (Faye) Skinner of Omaha, Ark.; sister-in-laws, Mary Virginia McCreary of Lutz, Fla., Alice Skinner of Santa Rosa, Calif.; son's mothe,: Shirley (Rusty) Schontzler of Aiken, S.C.; nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great- nephews and many friends. Preceded in death by brothers Norman, William Robert "Dub", Bob, Wayne, in-laws Esther Garee, Jesse and Alice MacBlane. Friends may call Friday 4-8 p.m. DeVORE-SNYDER FUNERAL HOME, SR 3 at 61, Sunbury, where service will be Saturday 11 a.m. with Pastor Bud Leskovac officiating. Interment in the Hunt Cemetery with Military Graveside Services. Memorial contributions can be made to American Diabetes Assoc., 471 E.
