Cecilia Wright Obituary

RAPID CITY - Cecilia Mary Wright, 89, Rapid City, died peacefully at Fairmont Grand Manor Wednesday, March 9, 2005, surrounded by her family. Cecilia suffered from Alzheimer's disease for the last seven years. She was born July 14, 1915 at Cuthbert, S. Dak. After one year of college Cecilia began teaching at the Sorenson School north of Wall, S. Dak. and continued her teaching career in Elm Springs, S. Dak., and Lakeside, S. Dak. She received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education in 1973. She met Ellery (Bosco) Wright in Interior, S. Dak. in the spring of 1944. Bosco was on leave from service in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. They were married June 15, 1944 in Walla Walla, Washington. She spent the next twenty two years raising their children. In 1966 Cecilia returned to teaching at the Black Hawk School, where she taught for twelve years. Her last two years of teaching were spent at Pinedale Elementary in Rapid City. She dedicated her retirement years to volunteerism. Cecilia kept quite busy. Some of her activities included volunteering with the Literacy Council and helping immigrants to become naturalized citizens. She was also very active in her church, making nursing home visits and tutoring students. It was her delight to spend time with her eighteen grandchildren. Cecilia is survived by three sons, Larry Wright and his wife Yetta, Tacoma, Washington, Jerome (Jerry) Wright and his wife Patricia, Rapid City and Mike Wright and his wife Pam, Rapid City; two daughters, Colleen Marvin and her husband Terry, Rapid City and Sheila Johnson, Rapid City; eighteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Sheila and Miranda--I can see her still, working in the teachers' lounge at Pinedale, cheerfully greeting us as we passed by. Cecilia was an inspirational teacher/helper/mother and grandmother. Be at peace, knowing that her glorified body will be whole and her spirit is serving others, even as you grieve her passing.

To all the Wright family,

Please know that our prayers and thoughts are with you at this difficult time. We will always remember Aunt Cecilia as a very loving and caring person – one who always had a kind word, a smile, and always an extra place for dinner. She’ll be missed by many – her students, those she helped along the way, and all of us who were blessed to know her. May the memories of her lifetime sustain you and bring you strength and peace.
