Charles Swad Obituary

SWAD Major Charles E. Swad, US Army, Retired, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on April 18, 2009. Charles was born in Martins Ferry, Oh. to the late Albert Sr. and Lela Swad on October 25, 1925. Charles is preceded in death by his son Gary Swad, brothers Albert Swad Jr., Kenneth Swad, sister Betty (Don) Heid. Charles is survived by his children, Vickie (Jeff) McMillan, Dali (John) Ogden, M.D., Stephan (Lisa) Swad; ten grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Ernest Swad, Bill (Sally) Swad; previous wife and fifty-eight year friend, Helen Swad; several nieces and nephews; Army friend, VW (Kitty) Struckman. Charles earned his BA from the University of Maryland and his Aeronautical Degree from the Ohio State University. Charles enlisted in the US Navy during WWII and served on the USS Franklin. Following his love of God, country and family, he remained to serve in Korean Conflict and Vietnam era before retiring as Major Swad in the US Army. After his military service, he worked for the Franklin County Sheriff's Office and Auditor's Office. He also managed Bill Swad Datson. He enjoyed flying, horse back, boating, motorcycling and living life to the gusto. He loved his family and his dogs, Joy and Kobe. A mass of Christian burial will be held at the PFEIFER FUNERAL HOME on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at 10 a.m. with Father James Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at the Glen Rest Memorial Estates.
