1930 - 2018
Prof. Chen-Ping (Alfred) Yang, passed away at age 87 on May 1, 2018 in Columbus, Ohio. Chen-Ping was born on November 17, 1930 in Beijing, China, and spent his youth in Kunming, Yunnan, China. Chen-Ping loved learning and teaching--he came to the United State in 1948 to attend Brown University (BA 1952), continued his education at Harvard University (MS 1953), and completed his PhD at the Johns Hopkins University in 1960. For 37 years, he taught physics at The Ohio State University until his retirement in 1998. He is preceded by his parents Wu-Zhi Yang (father), Lo-Meng Hua (mother), and his brother Chen-Fu Yang. He will be missed by Barbara Yang, his wife of 52 years; his daughter, Andrea Yang, son-in-law, Rainer vom Hofe, and son, Mason Yang; brother, Chen-Ning Yang and sister-in-law, Fan Weng; brother Chen-Han Yang and sister-in-law Fu-Yun Tan; sister, Chen-Yu Yang and brother-in-law, Shih-Fan Fan; grandchildren, Annika Yang vom Hofe and Joschka Yang vom Hofe; and nieces and nephews. Chen-Ping had a wide range of interests that he pursued with great enthusiasm including tennis, ping-pong, chess, go, philately, travel, astronomy, nature, and math/logic games. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. All services will be private.
