Cornelia Brown Obituary

Brown Cornelia "Mike" Brown, 92, passed away quietly November 5, 2014 surrounded by loving family members. Mike was born in Charleston, W. VA to Cynthia and James Burks. Mike was married to Millard C. Brown around 1946 and that union produced five children. She soon became a member of The Macedonia Baptist Church where she served God for many years as a member of the Chancel Choir and was the first director of the children's Chapelier Choir. And she was a superb whistler. She whistled many times at Macedonia and around the city. She was a member of the John Marr Ensemble for many years where she sang alto with friends and family. Loving God was her passion. Around 2001 she attended Fairmoor Presbyterian Church, loved it and later joined. She was an active member for a short time when illness curtained her attendance. The last few years have been spent with loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attending National Church Residence Day Center five days a week for recreation and fun with others her age. She was preceded in death by her parents Cynthia and James Burks, sisters Ethel Clementine and Louise, brothers William and Sydney Burks, and sons Carlton and Tyrone Brown. She is survived by her son, Jan L. Brown; and daughters, Velta D. (Kenneth) Cunningham and Gail B. (Robert) Ogletree; best friend in the world, Lucille Marr; along with a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and loving friends. She was blessed to have some of the greatest co-caregivers to assist in her care, ShaNelle "Misty" Brown, Tynnette Crawford, Ronda Thrweatt, Bobbie Sales and DePriest "Booter" Dillard. Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2014 at Fairmoor Presbyterian Church, 360 South James Road. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that you make a memorial contribution to National Church Residences Center for Senior Health, 1185 E. Broad St., Columbus, Ohio 43205.

Ill miss you dearly, but will always hold in my body what youve taught me, showed me, and what youve told me. You dont need an oxygen tank where u are now...no more suffering. See u when I get there. Velta and family,
My deepest condolences to you and your family. I will miss your Mom's smile as she used to get off her bus. I will never forget her remembering my name after her stroke. She always had a sweet compliment to say each time I would see her outside. She will definitely be missed. I have moved from next door but only across the neighborhood so if you need anything you can always call me. It makes me smile just thinking about her.

Mike was a blessing to be around. She ALWAYS had a smile for me and everyone in the room. I never heard her say a mean word against anyone and she had a beautiful voice when we sang during any activity. I had the honor of working with Mike as a nurse at Broad Street National Church Residences Daycare - she was a joy- despite all her physical problems she remained cheerful and caring of others. My prayers are with the family. May God bless you and give you good memories always. Liz Passero, RN
