Cosmo Bertino Obituary

BERTINO Cosmo Angelo Bertino, Sr., firm in family, friends and faith, died Sunday, June 17, 2012 at 87. Beloved head of a large family, it's fitting that he died on Father's Day. Born in Windber, Pennsylvania to Lucia and Santo Bertino, he was the third of five brothers. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII and in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Employed for years at Cantwell Machinery, he moved to Winchester, Kentucky in 1976 to work for Rockwell International where he made many friends and volunteered for St. Joseph church/school. He retired to Columbus in '94. A great provider and handyman, he enjoyed home improvement projects, golf, gardening and Our Lady of Victory parish. He was always fixing things, lending a hand, ride, tool or advice. Cosmo joins his parents, brothers Joseph, Dominic and son-in-law Tony Byington in heaven as well as many other loved ones. He is survived by wife, Josephine; twin, Donald and younger brother, Dick; and children, Cosmo Jr., (Paula), Michael (Nancy), Cindy Byington, Mark (Kim); and grandchildren, Sarah (Chip) York, Angela (Bryan) Nollet, Cara (Scott) Noschang, Andy (Erin), Anne-Marie (John) Phillips, Michaelyn (Adam) Parks, Suzanne, Tony, Shannon (Aaron) Swepston, Courtney (Chad) McCord, Kelsey, Megan, Kailey, Jason, Delaney and MaKenna. Great-grandchildren lit up his life, Kieran, Fiona, Robbie, Mia and Tommy, Lucy, Joseph, Benjamin Cosmo, Shelby, Hannah, Evan, Grace, Sadie, Connor, Zach, and Caleb. Much loved were his in-laws, nieces, nephews and extended family. Visitation Wednesday, June 20 from 4-8 p.m. at JOHN QUINT TREBONI, 1177 W. 5th Ave., Columbus, OH 43212. Funeral Mass 10 a.m. Thursday, June 21 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 1559 Roxbury Rd., 43212. Burial St. Joseph Cemetery. Cosmo was a great person. Our family shared many holiday meals with his family. I remember well the Easter we all sat at the table and made crosses from palm fronds. He will be missed by our family. Shirley, Jim and Katie
