Dear Mr. Balser & Family,
The memory is for the 6th grade class. I / we cannot thank you enough for your mentorship in 1968 when I was in the 6th grade at First Avenue elementary school in Columbus, Ohio. You took a bunch of short north rotten kids and turned them into gems. Thank you for reading the Bible to us EVERYDAY. You planned it so that by years end he had read the entire Bible to us. Yes, we said the pledge of allegiance also and said "under God". If the weather was too bad outside for recess, you would roll up floor mats and we would do gymnastics, rolls, flips etc...He changed countless live for the GOOD. Thank you comes up a lot short but thank you anyway. Very respectfully, Phillip A. Johnson

Dear God,
I and many, many others loved this man...so much. I was only blessed by him when he taught 6th grade at First Avenue School in Columbus, Ohio in 1969. Here, 54 years later I see that he has passed. I just wish I could connect with, what I know is literally thousands upon thousands of people that have been moved so deeply by this man. Thank you God for sharing him with myself and so many others and last of all...Thank you Mr. Balser.

I worked with Curtis at Children's Palace in the 1980's. He was the most kind and gentle man I had ever known. I am sad to hear of his passing. May he Rest in Peace. my condolences to the family.
