Daniel Akers Obituary

AKERS Daniel Akers, 62, of, Stoutsville, went home to be with the Lord August 17, 2012 in Florida. He was born February 5, 1950 in Wytheville, VA, the son of Everett and Audene (Shipwash) Akers. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and retired from Roadway as a truck driver. Dan was a loving, giving, funny, hard working Christian man. He was a loyal husband, father, grandfather and friend and also a great artist. He was affectionately known as Papaw, Q Ball, Cannonball Dan, Dan-O, Dan the man and Big Green Van. He was preceded in death by his parents, former wives Brenda and Shirley "Tudy" and sister Judy Akers. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Young) Valentine Akers; children, Danna (Chris) Smith of Grove City and Patrick (Kym) Akers of Memphis, TN; step-children, Toddy (Shelly) Valentine of Circleville, Kasy (Matt) Wetzel of Grove City and Kara (Bryan) Rettkowski of Circleville; seven grandchildren, Cheva, Nathan, Ginger, Liam, Evan, Ty and Trace; and brother, Steve Akers. Funeral service will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at the Community United Methodist Church with Pastor Barry Burns officiating. Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Grove City Cemetery with military honors. Family and friends will gather at the Potters House Church of God, Columbus immediately following the burial. Memorial contributions may be made to www.Pelotonia.org or American Cancer Society, Central Region Office-PWAY, 5555 Frantz Rd., Dublin, OH 43017. Arrangements completed by the WELLMAN FUNERAL HOME, Circleville.

I WORKED WITH DAN AT ROADWAY AND HE WAS ALWAYS KIDDING AROUND WITH ME. I'M SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT HIS PASSING.I'LL SEE YOU AGAIN TRUCKDRIVER.....THE PORKCHOP SAID THAT !!!! JOHN BROSE

I sure wish you'd been able to enjoy your retirement a bit longer. 45 days or so doesn't seem enough for 35 years of pounding the pavement. I know God has a plan, and while those of us still here can't see it yet, there's no doubt we soon will. Thanks for being my friend, Dan.
