Daniel A. Herb, age 65, of Powell, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2017 after a courageous 3-year battle against Stage IV Uveal Melanoma. Born October 25, 1951 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Frank X. and Jean Herb, Dan "Herby" was a 1970 graduate of Upper Arlington High School and a 1974 graduate of Urbana University. Starting as a part-time employee at Sutphen Corporation while in high school, Dan went on to represent Sutphen Fire Apparatus as an award winning Dealer, ultimately serving for 47 years in affiliation with the company. In 1988, he founded FTR&R, Inc. (now Herb Fire Equipment) for the purpose of providing smaller and rural communities with high quality refurbished fire trucks. He had a knack for anything mechanical, and could usually be found fixing or building something in his shop. He was a mentor for many and a friend to all. Dan had a zest for living life to its fullest and enjoyed skiing, boating, traveling and his signature cocktail, "the fire chief". Above all, Herby was a devoted husband, a wonderful father to his three children and an intriguing "Poppy" to his two grandchildren. He will forever be missed by his loving wife of 28 years, Wendy Myers Herb; children, Scott Herb, Andy (Crystal) Herb and Brooke (Devin Hencmann) Herb; grandbabies, Cooper and Natalie; brother Steve (Jean) Herb of Sarasota, FL and sister Karen (Steve) Graves of Lexington, KY, as well as many nieces and nephews and their children. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 13, 2017 from 5 PM to 8 PM at Jerome Church, 10531 Jerome Road, Plain City, OH 43064. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the church on Friday, July 14, 2017 at 2 PM.
